May 16, 2016 - As we approach Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th, 2016 this reminder: The US Flag and any other flags flying with it should be lowered to half-staff at sunrise and be raised at noon on Memorial Day. If you have no one to lower your flag at sunrise it is better to have it lowered the night before than not at all. In any case all flags should be raised at noon.
April 18, 2016 - Loyalty Day originally began as "Americanization Day" in 1921 as a counter to the Communists’ May 1 celebration of the Russian Revolution. On May 1, 1930, 10,000 VFW members staged a rally at New York’s Union Square to promote patriotism. May 1st evolved into Loyalty Day and the first official observance of the day was in 1959 after the signing of Public Law 85-529 on July 18, 1958.

Never has this humanitarian impulse proven more dangerous to follow than in 1992 when the United States intervened to arrest famine in the midst of an ongoing civil war in the East African country of Somalia.
March 26, 2016 - On Thursday, March 24th citizens and veterans gathered at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse to remember those who served in the Kosovo Campaign 17 years ago. Leigh Porterfield placed the Memorial Wreath in honor of her sister who served in the US Army.
March 24, 2016 - VFW National Commander John Biedrzycki said the VFW stands with ally Belgium as it mourns in the wake of a vicious and cowardly attack on Tuesday by radical Islamic extremists who are “hell-bent on destroying us and our entire way of life." The Chief called America vulnerable because it has porous borders, a broken immigration system, and elected and appointed officials who refuse to recognize this enemy as a threat to national security.
