March 20, 2026 — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Shelby County is excited to announce the launch of this year’s Walk Across Texas! A free 8-week physical activity challenge running April 6, 2026, through May 25, 2026. The program welcomes individuals, business teams, community teams, and families, including those involved in baseball, softball, and T-ball.
March 11, 2026 - (Show Album, Sale Album, Backdrop Album) - The Shelby County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show took place the week of March 2 through March 7, 2026, kicking off with the 3rd annual Shelby County 4-H & FFA Commercial Heifer Show.
December 15, 2025 - Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Jelly Making class scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. When the event is rescheduled, a notice will be published.
December 13, 2025 - The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) and the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial flock (poultry) in Shelby County, Texas. This is the first confirmed case of HPAI in a commercial facility in Texas this year.
Following considerable mortality in the flock, samples were submitted to a Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory and confirmed December 11, 2025.
November 12, 2025 - The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office will host a Forage Seminar on Monday, November 17th, at the Shelby County Extension Office, located at 266 Nacogdoches St., Center, Texas.
A meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program beginning at 6pm. The cost of attendance is $25 per person.
Participants will be eligible to receive 2 General and 1 Drift Minimization Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
Shelby County Welcomes UT Health Mobile Digital Mammography Unit
October 14, 2025 - The Shelby County Extension Office and the Health and Wellness Committee are pleased to announce the return of the UT Health Mobile Digital Mammography Unit in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The mobile unit will be located on the Downtown Square in Center, Texas, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 9am to 2pm.
