David's Daily Devotion for July 10

July 10, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, July 10.

My six-year-old granddaughter is visiting us this week. We started the morning by sitting for a while on the porch. Here's a devotion from three years ago, when she was three.

Today I'm focusing on an essential spiritual doctrine - the doctrine of the Front Porch. I searched the Bible for some scriptural background but came up empty. This was surprising, since it is such an important religious truth.

David's Daily Devotion for July 9

July 9, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, July 9.

It was a stormy Monday for many people. I hope that you and yours made it through Hurricane Beryl unscathed. Our prayers today are with those who are still without power, those who are digging out from under wind damage, those who are cleaning out from flooding.

There's an old saying, "the calm before the storm". It's inspired by an actual weather phenomenon where a storm cell draws warm, moist air out of the atmosphere for fuel. The birds go quiet, the wind dies down... and then the fireworks begin!

David’s Daily Devotion for July 2

July 2, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, July 2.

Our nation's 248th birthday is just two days away. Two years from now we'll get to celebrate the 250th birthday! That's called a "semiquincentennial".  Say that three times fast! We'll spend the next two daily devotions on patriotic themes, beginning this morning with a look at the story behind a beloved patriotic hymn - a song that not only honors America, but honors God, as well.

David's Daily Devotion for July 1

July 1, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Monday, July 1.

On the morning of July 1, 70 A.D. the Roman army began to attack the walls of Jerusalem. The Romans had a variety of powerful siege engines, including catapults and rams, and by August the Holy City's walls were demolished. The city where Jesus walked was on fire, and the temple where He taught was in ruins.

David’s Daily Devotion for June 27

June 27, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, June 27.

Do you know the name Giovanni Bernadone? He is one of the most famous Christian figures in history. Perhaps you know him better by his other name - St. Francis of Assisi.

St. Francis was born into a wealthy Italian merchant family in 1182. He spent his youth in pursuit of pleasure, in and out of trouble, in and out of jail. Then, at the age of 23, after a serious illness, he took a new look at his life and found God. Giovanni renounced his wealth, began living a simple life, and took the name Francis.

David’s Daily Devotion for June 26

June 26, 2024 - On June 26, 1977, a concert was presented at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 18,000 people present had no idea that they were witnessing a moment in history.  It was the last concert that Elvis Presley would ever give. His performance, as it had been for several years, was a shadow of the Elvis that the world had come to know and love. But for 90 minutes he gave that crowd everything he had. And six weeks later he was dead.
