David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 29

September 29, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, September 29.

English can be a complicated language. Many English words have multiple meanings. The word “set” is said to have 430 definitions!

Today we take a look at a complicated Bible word - “blessing”. Here’s just a few of the ways we use it.

*A prayer before meals - “Dad, would you say the blessing?”

*To make the sign of the cross - “The ball player blessed himself before the at-bat.”

*Response to a sneeze - “God bless you!”

David's Daily Devotion for September 28

September 28, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Wednesday, September 28.

In January of 1990, a church youth group in Burleson, Texas was having a weekend discipleship retreat.  On Saturday night, 10 teenagers, burdened for their classmates, went to their school, stood around the flag pole, and prayed.  From this small beginning, a vision for students to pray for students, began to spread from church to church and from school to school.

September 22, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, September 22.

One of the features of our morning worship service at First Baptist Center is a “welcome time”. Our congregation rises and shares a moment of greeting and fellowship with those around them. We sing a lively song during the welcome, and this Sunday that song will be Hank Williams’ “I Saw the Light”.

Herbert George Wells was born on September 21, 1866. H.G. Wells is considered one of the greatest science fiction writers in history. But the thing is, most of his "fiction" has turned out to be reality. His over 50 novels were primarily written in the late 1800's and in them he foretold the coming of airplanes, space travel, genetic engineering, television, wireless communication, and the internet. In 1913, 30 years before Hiroshima, he coined the term "atomic bomb".

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 20

September 20, 2022 - Good Morning!  It's Tuesday, September 20.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound . . .

The word “grace” is found 170 times in the Bible. One of those verses is John 1:17, “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” We typically think of grace as a New Testament concept, but 20 of those grace scriptures are in the Old Testament. Verses like Genesis 6:8, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord,” and Psalm 84:11, “The Lord gives grace and glory.”

David's Daily Devotion for September 19

September 19, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Monday, September 19.

As I write this, I'm watching the funeral service of Queen Elizabeth, along with billions of others around the globe. When it comes to pomp and pageantry - no one can do it like the British. It is truly a ceremony... fit for a Queen.

The service included some inspiring music, including the national anthem of England, which, for the first time in 70 years, is called "God Save the KING". I'm reminded of one of the hymns often sung at funerals here in the States - "In the Garden."
