David’s Daily Devotion for May 9

May 9, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, May 9.

We focus today on a man who had to wait 70 long years for a job. Are you good at waiting? I'm not. They say that patience is a virtue, but it's not one of my strengths. This man, let's say his name is Charles, was four years old when his mom got her job, let's say it was queen. And last weekend this man finally got to wear the crown, after 70 years of waiting.

David’s Daily Devotion for May 8

May 8, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Monday, May 8.

Something very special and kind of cool happened last Friday here in Center, Texas. A photograph was taken on our town square. Doesn't sound that special, you say? Well, here's some background.

On May 5, 1923, a panoramic photograph was taken on that same square. It showed a bustling town with hundreds of people, scores of Model-Ts, lots of horses, and even a team of oxen. Exactly a century later - last Friday, May 5, 2023 - that new photo was taken. Cool, right?

David’s Daily Devotion for May 4

May 4, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, May 4.

In 1885, a courthouse was built in Center. It was designed by an immigrant from Ireland, who, in its design, echoed the castles of his homeland. 138 years later, The Shelby County Courthouse remains one of the most interesting and beautiful buildings in Texas. And it is an appropriate setting for an event that is as old as America.

We continue with a brief series leading to tomorrow's National Day of Prayer. Our focus today is on the most famous prayer in history - The Lord's Prayer. It's found in two places - a short version in the gospel of Luke, and the longer, more familiar version in Matthew.

David's Daily Devotion for April 28

April 28, 2023 - Good Morning! It's Friday, April 28.

I love the book of Proverbs! Theologians agree that King Solomon - a man known for his wisdom - wrote most of these wise little truths. There are a few long passages in Proverbs - like the famous description of a godly woman in chapter 31 - but most of the book features single verse, bite size thoughts to live by. Here are a few of my favorites for you to chew on today . . .

9:10. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

David's Daily Devotion for April 27

April 27, 2023 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, April 27.

On this day in 1820, the legendary composer Ludwig Beethoven composed a piece that every young piano student ends up playing, sooner or later. It’s called “Fur Elise” - you know it - and it’s probably the most played piano piece in history. It wasn’t published until 40 years after the maestro was laid in his grave, and we can assume that every time a young pianist plays it (badly), that Beethoven spins in that grave!

What movie has been seen by the most people in history? (Titanic)
