David's Daily Devotion for September 13

September 13, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, September 13.

On this day in 1965, The Beatles released a new song. It was a simple, lovely ballad. And for the first time in their history, the recording featured only one member of the group - the songwriter, Paul McCartney. It went straight to #1 on the charts. Since then it's been "covered" by over 2000 other artists. And in the year 2000, Rolling Stone magazine voted it the greatest pop song in history. The name of the song? "Yesterday."

David's Daily Devotion for September 1

Good Morning! It’s Monday, September 12.

We did something yesterday at First Baptist Center that we haven’t done in over two and a half years - we met for Sunday night service. That tradition, going back to the founding of our church in the 1880’s, was short circuited by the Covid shutdown in March of 2020. And even as face-to-face morning service restarted, and youth and children’s ministries resumed, our Sunday evening service remained off the church calendar. Glad it’s back!

David's Daily Devotion for Sept. 9

September 9, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, September 9.

We have a worship tradition here at First Baptist Church of Center, Texas. At the beginning of each year - in January - and at the beginning of each church year - in September - we sing an extraordinary song. It's a song of hope, a song of purpose, a song of vision. It's called “Days of Elijah”.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 7

September 7, 2022 - Good Morning!  It's Wednesday, September 7.

This Sunday, our worship teams will call our congregation to worship with one of the oldest hymns in the hymnbook.  And it isn't really even a hymn.  It's a doxology.  The word comes from the Greek "doxa", meaning glory, and "logia", to say.  So, literally, a doxology is an expression of praise.  And, historically, it has been employed as a "tag" to hymns.  The "hallelujah" at the end of many of the Psalms could be considered doxologies.

David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 31

August 31, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, August 31. Bro. David is on vacation this week and is reprinting some favorite devotions from the past. This one originally ran on October 26, 2021.

Autumn shows its colors late here in East Texas. We’re on the threshold of November but trees are just beginning to turn. I was driving through the Smokey Mountains in early September and the leaves were already starting to change. Have you ever wondered what causes the reds and golds to appear? Well, in a word, it’s all about chlorophyll, or really the lack of it.
