Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights to Be Read Inside Historic Courthouse

June 27, 2023 - To honor America and the freedoms we all enjoy, and to celebrate the significance of Independence Day, members of the Shelby County Criminal Defense Bar will gather in the upstairs courtroom of the Historic 1885 Courthouse on the downtown Center square at 1:30pm on Friday, June 30, 2023, for a formal reading of the United States Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. The public is encouraged to attend.

1885 Courthouse Closes This Week Due to Excessive Heat, Power Outages

June 21, 2023 - Due to the excessive heat and the off and on power outages, the 1885 Historic Courthouse will be closed for tours this week. A comfortable temperature inside the courthouse is being difficult to maintain under the current situation.

According to the National Weather Service, Shreveport, Louisiana, only one more day of excessive heat is projected for the week. There is a private event scheduled for the 1885 Historic Courthouse on Friday, June 23.
