Center Cross Country Teams Start Season Strong

August 18, 2025 - Center Cross Country team finish strong in their season opener Cross Country Meet in New Summerfield on August 16. The meet had 21 teams registered to attend.

The Varsity Girls won 1st place, Varsity Boys won 2nd place, and the Junior Varsity Boys won 1st place.

Center is in Conference 4A District 17 along with Bullard, Hudson, Madisonville, Palestine, and Rusk. Rusk and Center were the only schools in the District to compete at the New Summerfield meet.

SCT Experiencing Email Technical Difficulties (Resolved)

Update: As of 1:28pm, the email issue has been resolved.

July 24, 2025 - Shelby County Today has been unable to access its email account - sctoday@att.net except for a short time this morning. When trying to access the email a message is displayed: "We are experiencing some technical difficulties." A statement from Yahoo Mail server advises they are currently working to resolve the issue.

Scrap Happy Quilters Present Quilts to Veterans at Pine Grove

July 3, 2025 - What better way to celebrate 4th of July than to present veterans with quilts! The Scrap Happy Quilters group visited Pine Grove Nursing Center in Center and presented Quilts of Valor to resident veterans. The patriotic quilts were given to Clyde Smith, David Boyd, Darry Rushing, David Satterwhite, and Aubrey Wilson.

Pine Grove expresses their appreciation to the group of quilters for their gifts which brought excitement and joy to the veterans. Happy 4th of July from the Scrap Happy Quilters and Pine Grove Nursing Center!

Shelby County Courthouse, County Offices Closed Due to Power Outage

June 20, 2025 - Due to a power outage in Center, the Shelby County Courthouse and County Offices closed at noon on Friday, June 20, 2025. All offices will reopen on Monday, June 23rd with regular business hours. Courthouse regular business hours are 8am to 4:30pm.

(Power Restored) Swepco Estimates 3pm Restoration for Center Power Outage; Heat Advisory until 7pm

As of 12:45pm, the power in Center has been restored.

June 20, 2025 - The second power outage this week for Center happened around 10:36am Friday, June 20. Swepco reports 3,030 customers are out of power and gives an estimated restoration time 3:00pm. The outage on Wednesday gave an estimated restoration time of 2pm but power was restored just before noon.

Swepco Advises 2pm Restoration for Center Power Outage

June 18, 2025 - A power outage occurred in Center around 9:20am Wednesday, June 18. Swepco reports 2,998 customers are out of power and gave an estimated restoration time orginally of 1:30pm. As of 9:42am, restoration for all customers has been moved to 2pm.
