August 25, 2017 - The Center Police Department is facing allegations of excessive use of force by two of its officers during a traffic stop in January through a civil rights lawsuit filed in federal court August 18, 2017.
Allegations made in the 11-page complaint are Center Police officer Spencer Anderson, in his patrol car, "chased" Kenith Windham on January 21, 2017 to Brown Street where Windham did not pull over, but crashed.
August 25, 2017 - The Tenaha City Council agenda for next Monday includes the resignation of two of the city's lead positions, that of the city mayor Carl Jernigan and city marshal Jimmy Wagstaff.
Mayor Jernigan just recently submitted his resignation to the city and Marshal Wagstaff presented his resignation letter to the city during the July 24, 2017 meeting.
August 24, 2017 - Center Police Officers were dispatched to a major crash on State Loop 500 Wednesday, August 23, 2017 involving a meat delivery truck and a passenger vehicle.
August 21, 2017 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded this morning to a train derailment caused when a commercial vehicle crashed into railway cars on FM 1279.
August 21, 2017 - Shelby County travelers should be aware the first day of school for Joaquin ISD is today August 21, 2017.
School buses in that area are now actively traversing the area morning and afternoon. Drivers are urged to abide by traffic laws, use extreme caution and be very aware of buses stopping to pick up and drop off students.
Next week will be the beginning of school for Excelsior ISD, Tenaha ISD, and Timpson ISD.
