January 7, 2025 - Laura Harris will address Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society Wednesday, January 15, at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library Annex. As marker chairman for Shelby County Historical Commission, she will explain the application process for obtaining a marker for elgible entities, such as churches and cemeteries.
December 2, 2024 - Timpson Area Genealogy and heritage Society was honored to be addressed at their November 20 meeting by Cecil Whitton, who shared his hobby of metal detecting.
November 4, 2024 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is pleased to welcome Cecil Whitton, father of our own Zoie Whitton, as our speaker Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 2pm in the annex of the Timpson Public Library.
Mr. Whitton, a graduate of Timpson High School has lived in Timpson since 1969 and was married to the late Kay Rhodes. He will share his hobby of metal detecting, some of the artifacts he has unearthed in the area, and tips for metal detection he has learned in his hobby.
October 1, 2024 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society will host Jesse Maynard as he speaks on the history of Timpson Masonic Lodge #437 Wednesday, October 16, 2pm, in the Timpson Public Library annex.
A mason for 32 years and Past Master at St. John's Lodge #51 and Timpson Lodge #437, Mr. Maynard currently serves as Secretary for the Timpson Lodge. He is active in the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as past Patron of Nacogdoches Chapter 428, McKinney Chapter #518, and Timpson Chapter 1144.
September 11, 2024 - Bill O'Neal will speak about our American freedoms to Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society members and guests Wednesday, September 18 at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex. He is concerned that these freedoms are being ignored and misunderstood. He plans to explore the importance of these freedoms and their historical significance. In addition, we may get a preview of the new book he is at this moment completing.
August 19, 2024 - Burt Hairgrove, the son of Bill and Gail Bailey Hairgrove, will discuss the history of Hairgrove families in Shelby County, Wednesday, August 21, at 2pm, at the meeting of Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society in the Timpson Public Library annex.
July 16, 2024 - Andrew King of King's nursery will speak about his family business's story on Wednesday, July 17 at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex for the July meeting of Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society. He is a horticulturist and the 4th generation of his family to manage the Tenaha nursery, which has been in continuous operation since 1915. He plans to bring a member of the 5th generation with him.
Mr. King may be better know to many as a member of the Calvary Boys.
June 15, 2024 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is pleased to host Bill O'Neal as our speaker June 19 at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex. Mr. O'Neal will speak on the role of Texas in the Civil War.
May 14, 2024 - Ralph Corry will share highlights of Timpson's football history with members and guests at the May meeting of Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society. Timpson's first state title and the records set by the Bears in 2023 have ignited interest in past Timpson football successes.
Ralph, a 1966 graduate of Timpson High School and the creator of Timpson66.com, simply describes himself as just a hometown boy who enjoys researching the history of Timpson and its school.
April 14, 2024 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is proud to announce our own Tad Bailey as our speaker Wednesday, April 17, at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex. Mr. Bailey lives on property purchased by his great-grandfather, Joseph A. Moses, in 1900. Mr. Bailey will explain who the Moses family was, and what has become of the remnant of the family.
