August 28, 2025 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society was honored to be the first group to which Bill O'Neal introduced his new book, "Miles City: Rollicking Cow Capital of the Montana Frontier". He addressed the Society August 20 in the Timpson Public Library annex.
August 19, 2025 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is pleased to host one of our most popular speakers Wednesday, August 20, at 2pm, in the Timpson Public Library annex. Bill O'Neal will share the history of Miles City, MT, and how our Texas cattle ranches figured in it's development. In particular, the role of the XIT Ranch, granted to its owners in return for constructing our Texas capitol, will be explained by Mr. O'Neal.
July 9, 2025 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is pleased to welcome Alease Copelin as our speaker Wednesday, July 16, at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex.
Mrs. Copelin asked to be introduced simply as a member of the Shelby County Historical Commission. However, many people will recall her days as an educator at the Timpson school. She will guide us through a virtual tour of "The Historic Houses of Center Texas". As a child, I enjoyed seeing some of these houses decorated for Christmas.
June 11, 2025 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is pleased to welcome Ronnie Wolfe as our speaker Wednesday, June 18, at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex.
Wolfe will tell his audience about food preservation and recipes from the past. Growing up as the son of a sharecropper, Mr. Wolfe lived the concept of "farm to table" long before this became a popular trend. Many people will be able to reminisce with Mr. Wolfe, and many others will learn things about food preservation that they might someday find very valuable.
May 17, 2025 - For decades, ladies of our area have quietly been making a difference in the Timpson Area. Many people may not realize these ladies meet in a nondescript building on the corner of Park and Bremond Streets to fellowship and quilt by hand. They raise funds by plying their craft, and in turn, entities such as the ambulance service benefit from these funds.
April 10, 2025 - Johnnie Sue Bell Jones will speak to Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society on Wednesday, April 16, at 2PM in the Timpson Public Library annex. Her subject will be the Bowlin family and the Buena Vista area.
March 11, 2025 - On Wednesday, March 19, at 2PM, in the Timpson Public Library annex, Bill O''Neal, former Texas State Historian and the author of dozens of books and papers, will entertain Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society members and guests with "The Exploits of Audie Murphy on His Centennial."
Well known as a professor of history at Panola College for many years, Mr. O'Neal promises an action filled presentation, with a bit of soap opera included.
February 3, 2025 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is excited to announce the annual visit of Scott Sosebee on Wednesday, February 19, at 2pm at the Timpson Public Library annex. Mr. Sosebee will speak about "America's Team and Texas' Team: Two Cities, Two Football Teams, and Two Identities in the 1970s. He has been researching this topic for a book he is authoring.
