May 17, 2023 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society will welcome Bill O'Neal as our speaker Wednesday, May 17, at 2PM at Timpson Public Library. He will discuss the musical traditions of Texas and the book on which he recently collaborated with Tommie Ritter Smith, The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. April 19, 2023 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society (TAGHS) is pleased to welcome Jake Keeling as our speaker Wednesday, April 19th, at 2PM at Timpson Public Library annex.
Jake, the 6th generation of the Keeling family line to make his home in the Jumbo community on the Rusk/Panola line, graduated from Henderson Public schools in 2007. He graduated from East Texas Baptist University in 2011, and subsequently earned a Master of Arts in history from SFA IN 2014. Jake serves as an adjunct instructor in the history department at ETBU.
March 13, 2023 - Jim Ross, son of J. W. and Laura Ross, who spent their retirement years in the Silas community near Timpson, will speak about the London School explosion to Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society members and guests on Wednesday, March 15, at 2pm in the Timpson Public Library annex.
February 15, 2023 - Scott Sosebee will address Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society (TAGHS) on Wednesday, February 15 at 2pm about Houston and East Texas Railway.
A Professor of History at SFA and the Executive Director of the East Texas Historical Association, Mr. Sosebee is also the author of five books on Texas History. The latest of these is "What is it About Texas Essays on the Lone Star State?"
January 14, 2023 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society (TAGHS) will welcome Dow McWilliams as our speaker Wednesday, January 18, at 2 PM, in the Timpson Public Library annex. Mr. McWilliams will speak about how he remembers Timpson from his youth. He will focus on an aerial photo, labeled as circa 1929 and taken by his uncle Terry Crawford. Briefly, he will discuss Ramsey family connections.
November 14, 2022 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society is excited to announce that Neil Grant will present a program on the history of the Timpson Band on Wednesday, November 16, at 2 PM, in the annex of the Timpson Public Library. Mr. Neil, a native and resident of Arcadia, is an alumnus of Timpson School. His tenure with bands began at an early age, becoming an All State bandmember at the age of 12. A member of the Texas Bandmaster's Hall of Fame, Neil was an award winning band director of Troup, Nacogdoches, White Oak, and Longview.
October 18, 2022 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society, in conjunction with Texas State Genealogy Society and Waco Genealogy Library, will host a statewide genealogy event, "Shedding Light On Your Family Tree," Friday, October 21 from 9am until 6pm.
Interested members of the public who wish to participate may do so from their personal device, or they may attend in person at the Timpson Public Library annex.
October 17, 2022 - Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society invites the public to join its members Wednesday, October 19, at 2PM for a program quite a bit different from our normal meetings. Morgan Kenney, who holds a doctorate in physical therapy, will share exercises and techniques to help people remain mobile and energized as they age. There is no charge for this program!
September 19, 2022 - Delora Silvers Simms, born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, moved to East Texas in 1983. About seven years ago, a friend encouraged her to research her family, and she was hooked on genealogy. She volunteers at Lufkin Family History and Life Center, located in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Delora has extensive knowledge of Family Search, a research database which is maintained by the Latter Day Saints. Unlike Ancestry, Family Search is a free site.
