August 17, 2017 - After the completion of a recent speed study and reevaluation on a portion of roadway located on SH 7 East, TxDOT is recommending for approval the speed limit be lowered from 75 mph to 65 mph.
The section of SH 7 East that will be affected includes .3 miles east of SL 224 in Nacogdoches to Martinsville. The change also includes just east of Martinsville and continues on SH 7 through San Augustine County and will end at the Center city limits in Shelby County.
August 17, 2017 Austin – It’s a celebration one century in the making as the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles introduces a specialty license plate commemorating the 100th anniversary of license plates in the state.
August 14, 2017 - As the new school year begins, TxDOT is reminding drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to exercise caution in and around school zones and school buses.
Schools in the nine-county Lufkin District are set to begin in coming days and the safety of all school children and motorists is important. Driver inattention could cause an unsafe condition on the roadway, whether it involves pedestrians, those on bicycles or school buses.
In 2015, there were 683 vehicle crashes in Texas school zones.
August 4, 2017 - Work is scheduled in the coming week on two different locations of US 59 that will require daily lane closures.
Guardrail work on US 59/SL 287 in Lufkin will continue. Work at the Atkinson Drive/SH 103 East overpass has been completed and traffic is flowing normally. Crews have begun working to replace guardrail near the frontage roads at Chestnut Drive/FM 58. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures should be expected.
August 1, 2017 – The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved nearly $488.3 million in new construction projects statewide, with three located in the Lufkin District.
The new projects total $6.8 million and are located in San Augustine, Angelina and Shelby counties. The work includes bridge replacements and right-of-way work.
New Designation for US 59 in Nacogdoches Also Approved
June 30, 2017 Lufkin – The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved more than $582 million in new construction projects with nearly $9 million awarded for new projects in the Lufkin District. Also approved was a new designation of US 59 in Nacogdoches and rural transit district funding for the 2018 fiscal year.
June 26, 2017 - Local property owners are confused about letters received from a law firm in Houston in an advertising attempt to gain business.
The letters say, “TxDOT will likely take your property” which is stamped “advertisement” at the bottom of the letter. The property owners are mostly located near current or future TxDOT construction projects. These advertisements should be disregarded.

May 31, 2017 Lufkin – The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved more than $422.1 million in new construction projects statewide, including $2.1 million for the nine-county Lufkin District.
