September 14, 2016 - With three out of four child car seats improperly installed, the Texas Department of Transportation encourages all caregivers to make an appointment for a free inspection at one of the agency’s 25 statewide district offices. TxDOT reminds all Texans that properly restraining their children while riding in vehicles is an everyday, year-round responsibility. It’s also the law.
September 7, 2016 - Recent thefts of road signs within the Lufkin District has prompted the Texas Department of Transportation to remind the public that removing a road sign or speed limit sign is against the law.
Under Texas law, a person who commits theft means taking something that does not belong to you without consent or any legal justification, or “unlawfully appropriates property with intent to deprive the owner of the property.” (Tex. Penal Code 31.03)
September 1, 2016 – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in keeping Texas roads safe by sharing the road responsibly with pedestrians, is urging everyone to exercise caution now that there is increased school and pedestrian traffic.
August 26, 2016 - The Texas Transportation Commission Thursday approved the 2017 Unified Transportation Program (UTP) with $70 billion worth of projects to help TxDOT meet the state’s growing transportation demands. The plan is the largest of its kind in the agency’s history that addresses capacity, maintenance and safety needs around state.
August 25, 2016 - The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved more than $395.4 million for new construction and facilities contracts and an additional $30 million for maintenance contracts statewide. The Lufkin District was allocated $774,722 for two new construction projects and $852,421 for a highway maintenance contract.
August 22, 2016 - Construction projects in the Lufkin District are ongoing as weather allows with plans for an upcoming weekend closure on BU 59 at the A&NR Railroad Bridge.
Plans include switching train traffic to the newly constructed bridge next week, weather permitting, and a road closure on Aug. 27-28 is scheduled in order to remove the temporary bridge. Paving the northbound lanes of BU 59/North Timberland Drive near the railroad bridge is also continuing.
August 19, 2016 – A construction project on SL 224 in Nacogdoches County is set to begin in coming days that will rehabilitate the roadway and enhance safety.
Moore Brothers Construction, contractor for the $789,787 project, is scheduled to begin work this week that will extend for about 2 miles from FM 2609 (Appleby Sand Road) to FM 2259 (Woden Road).

LUFKIN – The BU 59/A&NR Railroad Bridge in Lufkin will move closer to completion this week as contractors begin to pave additional northbound lanes toward SL 287 and the BU 59 overpass.
August 1, 2016 – The Texas Transportation Commission last week awarded 68 new construction projects statewide totaling more than $359 million, with five located in the Lufkin District that total more than $10.5 million.
