August 1, 2016 – The Texas Transportation Commission last week awarded 68 new construction projects statewide totaling more than $359 million, with five located in the Lufkin District that total more than $10.5 million.
Newly approved projects for the Lufkin District are located in Angelina, Houston, Shelby and Polk counties. Project totals and project descriptions include:
August 1, 2016 - Night work is scheduled in Angelina County for several nights that will have motorists planning an alternate route.
Maintenance crews will close Chestnut Drive at Timberland Drive for several nights, allowing contractors to repair joints in the roadway. Motorists are urged to choose alternate routes or be prepared for detours and possible delays.
July 14, 2016 LUFKIN – The Texas Department of Transportation Commission in a special meeting Wednesday awarded 52 projects at a cost of $319.8 million, with four projects totaling $3.7 million awarded in the Lufkin District.
AR Brothers Construction was awarded a $1.1 million construction project in Nacogdoches County designed to safety treat fixed objects on FM 1638 from FM 698 to FM 2609, and on FM 2783 from SH 204 to end of pavement.
July 12, 2016 - An emergency contract has been approved for repairs to begin on SH 7 in Shelby County after March floods caused slope failures at two separate locations of the roadway.
July 12, 2016 - Many ongoing construction and maintenance projects continue in district
LUFKIN – The Lufkin District will begin its annual seal coating as well and mill and inlay projects are scheduled on local roadways beginning next week with work expected to continue in various locations for about six weeks.
Crews will begin the seal coat season in the Lufkin District on Tuesday in San Augustine County on FM 83 in Broaddus and work from SH 147 to FM 705. Flaggers will be in place to lead traffic around the work convoy.
July 6, 2016 - With summer garage sales and upcoming elections, TxDOT wants to remind the public what is allowed to be placed on TxDOT right-of-ways.
Encroachments on state highways and right-of-ways includes any unauthorized structures, vehicles or roadside vendors. These items could cause damage to the roadway system, increase litter and frequently create an unsafe or hazardous condition.
July 1, 2016 - LUFKIN – Traffic will be shifted beginning Tuesday, July 5, in order to begin the next phase of construction on a major San Augustine County construction project.
Traffic patterns will change for northbound and southbound traffic beginning next week to allow southbound lanes to be reconstructed on US 96 from the Shelby County line to FM 3451.
June 17, 2016 LUFKIN – Construction crews have begun setting traffic barriers in preparation for median construction on US 59 in Nacogdoches County.
Approximately 1,100-foot of concrete median will be set south of SL 224 in Nacogdoches on US 59 in what is the existing center two-way left turn lane. In addition, work will continue on nearby sidewalks and driveways throughout the project. Repairs and replacements of curb and gutter and various sections of pavement structure are being built on the widening project both north and south of Spradley Street.
June 13, 2016 LUFKIN – With summer sunshine allowing the Lufkin District to work on many construction and maintenance projects, motorists are urged to watch for crews working alongside the roadways and be prepared to reduce speed through construction zones.
Many times construction or maintenance work requires a lane to be closed and drivers should remain alert to flaggers, work convoys and lighted signs warning of work ahead.
