Joyce Ham Kirkley was called home to The Lord on June 19, 2025. She was 97. A lifelong resident of Center, graduating Center High School in 1945, voted "Most Popular" in her class.
She was a devoted wife and mother, "Nan" to much loved grandchildren, and a cherished friend to many. Her passions were Bible study, piano, and service to church and community. She was a long time member of Center First Baptist Church.

Marcell Smith was born in Odessa, Texas, on November 11, 1961 and passed away on June 15, 2025 at the age of 63.
Marcell pursued higher education at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, and later earned his diploma in Respiratory Therapy from Odessa College. Marcell was an initiated as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Committal: Burial will take place at 11am on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Timpson, Texas at Antioch Cemetery.

Born January 28, 1953, in Center, LaMoine is the son of Kaufman Pearl Williams, Jr. and Hazel Dean Williams. He served in the United States Army. LaMoine loved reading, cooking, and his dog, Jetter. A follower of Jesus, LaMoine was a member of First Assembly of God.

Margaret was born March 3, 1935, in Marshall County, Alabama, to Emmitt Whitt and Violet Hefner Whitt. She was a great cook and enjoyed playing with her dog, gardening, playing with her great grandkids, singing hymns, and was a big cheerleader for her whole family. Margaret was a member of the Shelby County Singers.

Born October 12, 1969, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Tammy is the daughter of Pat W. Bussey, Jr. and Terry Lynn Bradshaw Rice. She resided in Longview, Texas, for twenty-eight years, where she worked side by side with her mother at The Flower Peddler. Tammy was also a Mary Kay consultant for over thirty years. She loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time on the water with her dad and Carolyn on their boat, “Miss Candy Kids.” Her hobbies included traveling, cooking, shopping, decorating for the holidays, and spending time with her family-especially her grandkids. Tammy was a member of Alpine Church of Christ.

Dianna Marie (Muir) Link, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, in Tenaha, Texas. Born on May 25, 1945, in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Robert Muir and Ann Cruell Muir, Dea lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 13, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 4417 County Road 4054, Timpson, Texas , 75975.
Raised in Houston, Dea graduated from Jesse H. Jones High School before continuing her education at Stephen F. Austin State University. In 1977, seeking a closer connection to family and a quieter life away from the city, she made the heartfelt decision to move with her two children to Timpson, Texas, where her sister lived. This move would mark the beginning of a deeply rooted life in East Texas.
Dea’s professional journey reflected her dedication and work ethic. She began working for a builder in Timpson and later joined Shelby Gas. Eventually, she found her calling at Center Independent School District, where she served as a secretary for an impressive 27 years. Her commitment and reliability left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike until her retirement in 2017.
Outside of work, Dea found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved her fur babiess, gardening and was known for her creativity through arts and crafts. Dea also enjoyed a good seafood dinner, great crime show, and reading a good book, as well as visiting Delaina in The Woodlands—a trip she always looked forward to.
Family was at the heart of everything Dea did. She cherished time spent with her children and especially delighted in watching her grandchildren play sports. Her presence at their games was a source of encouragement and pride. Those who knew Dea also remember her as kind-hearted, compassionate, and genuine—qualities that defined every aspect of her life.
A woman of deep faith, Dea loved the Lord and lived each day guided by that love. Her spiritual strength was evident to all who knew her and served as an anchor throughout her life.

Helen Dayle (Hobbs) Weible, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, in Shelbyville, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 18, 1954, in Jonesville, Louisiana, Helen lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a passion for teaching, and a deep love for the simple joys of country living.

On January 19, 1973, Helen married her best friend and lifelong companion, Jon Weible. Their enduring partnership was a testament to love and mutual respect. Together they built a family that brought her immense pride and happiness. She went on to dedicate 25 years of service to Shelbyville High School before retiring. Her commitment to education left a lasting impression on generations of students and colleagues alike. She loved teaching and found joy in sharing knowledge and nurturing young minds.
Helen had a deep affection for animals—especially the goats and chickens she tended on her farm—and cherished the companionship of her house pets. She enjoyed thrifting adventures that often led to unexpected treasures and spent quiet moments immersed in books. Her dry sense of humor brought laughter to those around her.
Above all else, Helen loved the Lord and held fast to her faith throughout her life. Her warmth touched many lives through both her personal relationships and professional dedication.

Larry O’Neal Sample, 69, of Center, Texas, passed away June 20, 2025, in Center. Born on June 23, 1955, to P.O. and Odell Sample, Larry was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Visitation will be Monday, June 30 from 12pm to 2pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Timpson, TX (4417 CR 4054 Timpson, TX 75975). The funeral will be at 2pm following visitation.
Larry lived a full and joyful life. He married Deb Hutto, and together they were blessed with three children: Patrick, Stephanie, and Ashley. Later in life, he married Debbie Peurifoy, gaining two more children to love as his own—Christopher and Mary Ruth. Larry was immensely proud of his family and found his greatest joy in being “PopPop” to his grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them.
In his younger years, Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, and sitting down to a big plate of crawfish with friends and family. He had a knack for turning ordinary moments into memories, always ready to laugh, joke, and enjoy the good times.
A hard-working and self-made man, Larry owned and operated Hi-Way Salvage for most of his adult life. Through his business, he made countless lifelong friendships and became a familiar face in the community.
Larry will be remembered for his big heart, fun-loving spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and strength that will be carried on by those who knew and loved him.

Barry Joe Horton was born on January 12, 1951, in Shreveport, Louisiana and was surrounded by his family as he took his final earthly breath on June 15, 2025, at the age of 74, in Tyler, Texas.
Born to Arthur and Irene Bailey Horton, Barry was raised in Timpson, Texas. In his youth, he was active in the Timpson community: he was a proud Eagle Scout, an active member of the First Baptist Church, a four year varsity letterman in track and football as well as Mr. School Spirit in his Sophomore year. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1969 and went on to graduate from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1975 with a degree in Business Administration. On April 7, 1973 he married Anita Anne Morris. Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, they raised two exceptional, intelligent, and loving children, BJ and Chase, while living in Jersey Village, TX. Barry worked at Jefferson Pilot Life Insurance in Houston for most of his career. After retirement, Barry returned to Timpson where he lived out his remaining days.
Barry enjoyed the simpler things in life like a hot cup of black coffee, a heaping plate of fried chicken, and the company of family and friends. Barry was a devoted father—spending many years volunteering his time and resources to Boy Scouts. He served as a Den Leader, a Cub Master, and Scout Master for BJ and Chase’s Cub Scout Pack and Troop. He never took himself too seriously as evidenced by his participation in the “Womanless Beauty Contest” to raise money for the boy’s pack. While he didn’t win the contest, his participation created lasting and joyful memories for all who attended. Barry was happiest when he was spending time in nature with his sons and he appreciated the life lessons and skills that he was able to share with his children through Scouting. Barry took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and never shied away from being their constant cheerleader—whether he supported them by making fabric flags with the logo of their baseball team that he proudly waved behind the outfield fence at baseball games or the myriad of photos of BJ and Chase that he proudly displayed in his home.
Barry delighted in the opportunities he had to spoil his two grandchildren: Trey and Emaline when they came to visit. Living in Timpson allowed “Pop” to share fond childhood memories with his grandchildren. Trey loved exploring the property with Pop and visiting “Trey’s tree” along the creek and Emaline loved sitting at the kitchen table for a tea party and listening to Pop tell stories. Both grandchildren fondly remember the games they would play with their Pop in the “tricky trees.” They will miss him deeply, but know that he is with Jesus.
When asked how they would describe their father, BJ and Chase quickly replied that their Dad was godly, adventurous, stubborn, and hungry—for good food and for life. They never had to question the love their dad had for them—he always sent birthday cards and letters of which he always signed them with his beloved acronym YDLY.
Barry Horton was a loving father, a devoted follower of Jesus, an outdoor enthusiast, a collector of memories, and a teller of stories. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him well.

Nadine Stephens Lawson, 90, of Center, Texas, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at her home in Antioch Community surrounded by her family. She was born April 25, 1935, to Ira and Mary Stephens.
She married Forriest Lawson, May 24, 1953. They lived in the Houston area for many years before moving to Center. She loved gardening and being with her family. She was a homemaker until her children were grown; then, she went to work for E. L. Bruce Company for twenty-five years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and choir member.
Services will be conducted by Watson and Sons Funeral Home of Center. Visitation is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. with services following in the Watson and Sons Funeral Home Chapel at 11am on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Burial will follow the service at Antioch Cemetery with refreshments following in the fellowship hall of Antioch Baptist Church. Bro. Johnny Lewis and Bro. Ron Miller officiating.

Robert L. “Bobby” Garrett, 89, of Logansport, Louisiana, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025, at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11am, Monday, June 23, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Logansport, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10am. Rev. Eric L. Garrett and Bro. Shawn Thrapp will officiate. Interment will follow at O.E. Price Cemetery in Logansport, Louisiana.
Born November 30, 1935, in Kilgore, Texas, Bobby is the son of Robert Levi Garrett and Edna Daughtry Garrett. He served in the United States Army. Bobby was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Logansport, Louisiana, where he served as a deacon.

Freda A. Richard, 50, passed away on June 14, 2025. She was born to the late Alfred Dale Richard and Dorothy Ree Richardson-Richard on January 05, 1975. She was the fourth child born to this union.
Funeral service is at 11am on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Smith Chapel Baptist Church, 919 County Road 4704, Timpson, Texas with Reverend Mario Osby, Pastor; Superintendent Marvin Jackson I, eulogist; and Bishop Cedrick Grace, Sr., moderator. Public viewing will be from 11am until 6pm on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Community Funeral Home, in Timpson (Hwy 84 North). Interment is at Antioch Cemetery, Timpson.
She graduated from Timpson High School in Class of 1993. While at Timpson High School, she qualified for the state track meet in the 400m. She won it two years that she ran. She played the bass clarinet in the award-winning Timpson High School Military Marching Bear Band.
She attended Panola Jr. College after graduating from THS. She decided to serve her country in the Army Reserves.
When she ended her time in the reserves, she gave birth to her first daughter: Samaria Richard. Two years later she gave birth to her second daughter Dorothea Robberson.
She was a long-time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she sung in the choir. She later moved her membership to Clayton Temple C.O.G.I.C.. She was a faithful member even when her health started to fail her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Dale Richard; grandparents, Lucinda and Johnny Richard Sr., and Louise and George Richardson, Sr..

Carolyn Sue Eells, 79, of Flint, TX passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Center, TX.
Services will be conducted by Watson and Sons Funeral Home of Center on Thursday, June 19th. There will be a public viewing at the First Baptist Church of Center at 1pm, followed by funeral services at 2pm. Cremation to follow. Bro. Porter Brewer and Bro. Steve Brand will officiate.
Carolyn was born on November 24, 1945, to Eva Mae and Raymond Arnold in Pasadena, TX. She was the second of four daughters along with Dorothy, Vicky, and Paula. While growing up in Pasadena, she met her future husband Ken at a church bowling party! Ken and Carolyn began a love story that lasted more than 60 years. They were married on October 16, 1964, and celebrated their 60th Anniversary this past October.
As Ken and Carolyn started serving the Lord together, they were blessed with three loving children: Shelley, Wendy, and Jeremy. Carolyn held various jobs through the years including working at NASA, banking, and many volunteer positions, but her heart was in making a loving home for her husband and children. Ken will be the first to say that their ministry was a partnership. Together they served in five churches over 22 years, 3 years as missionaries living in Malawi, Africa, and another 22 years with the International Mission Board in Richmond, VA. The Lord carried them to 60 countries around the world sharing the Gospel with the nations. After retirement, they moved to Flint, TX in 2018 and Carolyn embraced the full-time title she loved best… Omi. Omi and Opa are the parents of three children, grandparents of nine and great-grandparents of six and counting! Of all the incredible places they travelled, the churches they served, and the adventures they shared, Omi always counted her husband and family as her greatest blessings. Carolyn went to her reward on June 17, 2025 as she heard her Father say, “well done, my good and faithful servant.”
