Four of Shelby County’s five varsity football teams came away with district wins last Friday.

The Center Roughriders beat the Madisonville Mustangs by a 48-10 score at Center. This week the ‘Riders will head to Jasper for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Bulldogs Stadium. Jasper is 6-1 and they beat Shepard High School by a 42-6 score last week.

The Joaquin Rams beat the Shelbyville Dragons 32-14 at Dragons Stadium last Friday. The Rams are now 8-0. They will travel to Timpson, on Friday, for a 7:30 p.m. game with the Bears who are 9-0 after beating West Hardin by a 63-0 score.

The Shelbyville Dragons are now 2-4 and they will head to San Augustine for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday, at Wolves Stadium. The Wolves are 3-4 and lost at home to the Garrison Bulldogs by a 32-15 score.

The Tenaha Tigers improved their 2020 season record to 6-2 when they beat visiting Cushing by a 36-6 score in front of a THS homecoming crowd last Friday. The Tigers will travel to Overton (1-6) on Friday for a 7 p.m. game at Mustangs Stadium. The Mustangs lost to Cushing two weeks ago by a 53-0 score.

October 27, 2020 - The Tenaha Boys’ Cross Country HS and JH teams came away with GOLD at the 23-2A District Meet held in Shelbyville on Monday, October 26th. The High School Boys took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and 7th, 8th, and 9th places. Junior High boys finished 1st and 2nd. Yulitza Perez, Girls Junior High team, finished 8th overall. The High School Boys’ team will advance to the Regional meet to be held in Huntsville on November 10th. Cross Country teams are coached by Laurie Sisk.

The Tenaha Tigers Varsity Football Team took a 36-6 District 11 Class 2A-2 win over the Cushing Bearkats on Friday. The win gave the Tigers a 5-0 conference mark with one game remaining and they have cliched the conference title. Tenaha stands at 6-2 overall this season. This was their 2020 Homecoming contest. Senior Drew Henry was crowned as this year's queen.

Neither team was able to score in the early going. The Tiger’s defense was able to catch the Bearkats inside the endzone at the start of the second period which gave THS a 2-0 point lead with 11:54 left in the first half. After Cushing free-kicked the ball back to the Tigers. On the Tigers first play from scrimmage Markee Rasberry took the handoff and raced 70 yards for a THS touchdown. Manuel Laredo kicked an extra point and the Tigers led 9-0 with 11:39 left in the second period.

The Tigers got a 2-yard touchdown run from senior Tre Keggler with 3:03 left in the second frame which allowed THS to take a 16-0 lead into the halftime intermission.

Rasberry scored his second touchdown on a 60-yard run with 9:20 left in the third stanza and gave Tenaha a 22-0 advantage.

Eddie Davis scored Cushing’s only points with a 3-yard scoring run with 6:02 left in the third quarter.

Keggler added another touchdown to his resume with just 10 seconds remaining in the third period to help give THS a 29-6 advantage.

The game’s final score came from a 28-yard touchdown pass from Trendon Claiborne to Tray Tutt with under 7 minutes remaining in the contest. Laredo added another extra point kick which gave the Tigers a 36-6 lead.

October 22, 2020 - The Shelbyville Dragons will play San Augustine in San Augustine on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 7:30 PM. 

The following ticket information applies:

Shelbyville has received 300 vouchers. Vouchers must be picked up at the SISD Guard booth Monday through Wednesday 8:30 am til 1:30 pm or until all vouchers have been given out. Spectators will take the voucher to the Visitor’s Ticket Booth in San Augustine and pay $5 for entry. No vouchers will be available at the gate in San Augustine.

Monday - Parents of students who are participating in the event / Students participating in the event to include: Football players, cheerleaders and water girls. Limit 2 per Student Athlete / Participant’s Family.

*** The band/majorettes/danceline will not be traveling to away games.

*** For parents with multiple students participating, the number still remains at a limit of 2 vouchers per family.

Tuesday-Wednesday - General Public may pick up vouchers - Limit 3 per person

The Center Roughriders beat the visiting Shepherd Pirates by a 56-6 score to move their District 10 4A mark to 1-1. Their overall record now stands at 5-2. They will travel to Madisonville this Friday, October 23, 2020, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff with the 3-4 Bulldogs. They are 1-1 in conference action as well.

The Joaquin Rams beat visiting West Hardin High School by a 46-0 margin. The Rams are now 7-0 overall and 3-0 in District 10 2A-1 action. They will now travel to face county rivals, the Shelbyville Dragons, on Friday, at 7:30 p.m., at Dragons Stadium. The Dragons beat Garrison at Bulldogs Stadium last Thursday by a 33-14 score. SHS is now 1-1 in conference action and 2-3 overall for the season.

The Tenaha Tigers travelled to Mount Enterprise last week and defeated the Wildcats by a 49-0 margin. The Tigers are 4-0 in District 11 2A-2 action and they are 5-2 overall this season. This week they will host the Cushing Bearkats who are 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. They beat the visiting Overton Mustangs last week by a 53-0 score. Kick off is this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Raymond Jackson Stadium.

The Timpson Bears beat the visiting San Augustine Wolves last week by a 56-14 score. Timpson is 8-0 overall and 3-0 in District 10 2A-1 action. The Bears will head to West Hardin on Friday to face the 1-5 (0-2) Oilers. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

October 19, 2020 - Middle School Volleyball Patrons, please note the following requirements for today’s Middle School volleyball home game against Jasper:

● All guests will be required to wear a face covering while at the event. You will not be allowed to enter without a face covering.

Executive Order GA-29​, regarding face coverings, applies to all UIL activities effective July 3, 2020. This includes the 2020-2021 school year. As the public health situation changes, and/or if subsequent Executive Orders are issued by Governor Greg Abbott, these guidelines may be further modified.

Exceptions to the wearing of face coverings or face shields include:

● Any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering;
● While a person is consuming food or drink;
● When a congregating group of persons maintains at least 6 feet of social distancing; or
● Any other reason or circumstance indicated under ​Executive Order GA-29.

● Social distancing will be required in the bleachers. Yellow tape is used to mark non-seating areas. Please only sit in allowable areas.
● Individuals who are confirmed to have, suspected of having, are experiencing symptoms of, or have been in close contact with an individual who has been confirmed to have COVID-19 should not enter the facility.
● We will follow all UIL guidelines for game attendance including the 50% capacity requirement. Therefore only family members of players will be allowed to attend. Students without a guardian will not be allowed to enter so that we have enough room for parents and family members.

October 19, 2020 - Shelbyville hosts Joaquin in a Friday night football matchup on October 23 at 7:30pm and it will be Senior Night.

All adult fans are expected to wear a face covering for admittance and practice social distancing while at the game. 

Ticket prices are $5 (adults and children). 

All fans must have a ticket for admittance to the game.

Dragon Stadium will open its gates to fans for the purchase of General Admission home tickets at 6:15 p.m.

Please note: Parents of students who are participating in Friday’s home football contest, which includes football players, cheerleaders, band members, dance line and twirlers may purchase up to 2 pre-sale tickets on Monday, October 19th (8:30 am – 1:30 pm) and Tuesday, October 20th (8:30 am – 1:30 pm) at the Guard Booth. Tickets are $5 each. If a Friday night student participant needs more than two tickets for his/her family, additional tickets may be purchased at the ticket booth on Friday night prior to the game on a first come first serve basis. 

Visiting fans from Joaquin must have a voucher from Joaquin High School to be admitted. No visitors’ tickets will be sold at the gate.

Visitors may not purchase home tickets or sit on the home side.

The Center Roughriders evened their District 10 Class 4A-2 varsity football record at 1-1 by defeating the visiting Sheppard Pirates by a 56-6 score on Friday. The Roughriders drew first blood when Keamodre Horace scored on a 14-yard touchdown run with 4:18 left in the first quarter. Luis Gonzales added on an extra point kick and the ‘Riders led 7-0. The Center lead was expanded to 14-0 when Horace scored on another run with just 2:09 left in the opening period.

 Sheppard scored on a quarterback sneak in the second stanza and CHS took a 14-6 into the halftime break.

Horace scored on a 65-yard scoring run helping CHS to take a 21-6 advantage with 9:21 left in the third quarter of play. Roughrider Marques Hall scored on a special teams play to give Center a 28-6 lead with 4:27 left in the third quarter.

Horace added another touchdown run to his tally with 47 seconds left in the third frame. CHS led 35-6 going into the fourth period.

Hall scored his second touchdown with 10:17 left in the game Center led 42-6.  Mar Mar Evans caught a pass for a touchdown from Jake Hanson to help expand the CHS lead to 49-6 with less than five minute remaining. Dekylin Hoyt intercepted a Pirates pass with just seconds left and returned it for a score for the games final score.

The 'Riders will travel to Madisonville on Friday, October 23, 2020 for a 7:30 p.m. Kickoff at Mustangs Stadium. The Mustangs are 4-3 and 2-0 in conference play.

October 16, 2020 - Shelbyville ISD Administration did not want to wait any longer to give recognition to the 2020 2A State Champion Dragon team after the Championship Rings arrived. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the administration opted to at this time do a small private ceremony with the players still attending school with intentions to honor all at a later date.

Dr. Ray West, Superindent, wants to assure everyone a ceremony will be held at a later date, possibly at a basketball game, which will include the seven players who graduated in May, cheerleaders, team managers, and families of the players. At the ceremony with all, the state medals will be presented.

Dr. West said, "I was really important for us to make sure you were acknowledge when you didn't get a chance to defend the title. But in my opinion, until somebody takes the title from you, it's still ours." He continued, "We thought it was real important to go ahead and get you the ring to acknowledge that."

In June 2020, UIL held a virtual awards ceremony presenting the trophies to the four Conference 2A teams who were slated to compete for the title but due to COVID-19 their journey ended and all four teams were awarded the Championship title.

Next announced was managers, trainers, and statisticians: Trey Smith (Video), Kason Parker (Manager), Eli Ferguson (Manager), Feynedric Buckley (Manager), D.J. Barnes (Manager), Jay Barnes (Statistician), and Dallas Murry (Statistician). Head Coach for the Shelbyville Dragons was David Schmitt and Assistant Coaches are Joe Boykins and Kenneth Thomas.
