Due to the weather forecast, the tennis team will not be traveling to compete against Wills Point today, March 8, 2016. The JV match with Joaquin on Thursday will be next on our schedule and has not been cancelled yet.

March 7, 2016 - The Center HS Baseball team played in the Oil Belt Classic last weekend hosted by Kilgore High School. The Riders finished the tournament with a 2-1-1 record.

The Riders will travel to Hallsville High School this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to compete in the Reich Builders' Classic, weather permitting.

March 7, 2016 - Shelby Swaim placed 4th at the Regional Meet and qualified for the state meet in Corpus Christi on March 18. Jaz Atkins placed 6th at the Regional Meet. Desere Cooper placed 2nd at the Regional Meet qualifying her for the state meet as well.

March 7, 2016 - The Joaquin HS baseball game has been moved to today, March 7th due to weather the rest of the week. Game time will still be at 6:30.

March 6, 2016 - The Center JV and Varsity softball teams will play Diboll tomorrow, March 7, at home.  JV will begin at 4:30, and Varsity will play at 6.

Additionally, the district baseball game scheduled for Tuesday March 8th, has been moved to tomorrow, Monday, March 7th. The Varsity game will begin at 4:30 with JV to follow.  

March 5, 2016 - Center fell to Navasota, 55 to 70, in the 4A Regional Semifinal held March 4th at Sam Houston State University. 

The Roughriders came out strong in the first period leading 17 to 11. The Navasota Rattlers started gaining momentum in the second period scoring 16 points to the Riders 13 for the period. Center went into the third period with a 3-point lead but their opponent continued to outscore them and the Rattlers soon had a 6-point lead at the end of the period. Navasota ended the game with a 15 point margin over the Roughriders ending their run for the UIL Boys State Basketball Championship. 

Navasota soon felt the agony of defeat as they fell Saturday, March 5th to Silsbee, 62 to 85.

Octavius Evans was the high scorer for the game with 18 points followed by Jaterious Evans who scored 10 points. DeCorey McGee and Jamonie Nash each scored 6 points. Tyrone Roland and Kyle Parks each scored 5 points. Deion Thedford scored 3 points and Sayoddrick Barnes scored 2 points.

From left: JaCarlos Hall and Witt DockensMarch 4, 2016 - Two Center Roughrider powerlifters, Witt Dockens and JaCarlos Hall, have qualified to compete in the Texas State Powerlifting Championship meet in Abilene, Texas on April 2nd. On March 3, JaCarlos Hall and Witt Dockens placed 2nd at the Regional Powerlifting meet in Lindale.

At the Region III Division II Championship meet Hall lifted a total of 1,225 lbs in the 165 lb class earning 2nd place. Hall squatted 485 lbs, bench pressed 285 lbs, and deadlifted 455 lbs.

Dockens lifted a total of 1,250lbs earning 2nd place in the 181 lb class. Dockens squatted 500 lbs, bench pressed 315 lbs, and deadlifted 445 lbs.

March 4, 2016 - Shelbyville Girls Powerlifting team competed March 3, 2016 at Troup High School in the Regional Powerlifting meet.  The Lady Dragons are Regional Champions for Region 3, Division 3.

March 3, 2016 (Photo Album) - Center Roughrider Basketball won their first round game of the Regional Quarter Finals against Diboll Lumberjacks with a final score of 62-59 in the William R. Johnson Coliseum at SFA on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Roughriders were the home team. At the end of the first period the game was tied 9-9. Riders pulled ahead by 2 points during the 2nd period only to have the Lumberjacks comeback and take the lead by 3 points. Center fought through an exciting 4th period to score 6 points more than Diboll giving them the win by 3 points.

Octavius Evans was the high game scorer with 20 points. Tyrone Roland was second with 11 points followed by Kyle Parks who scored 9. Jaterious Evans and Dacorey McGee each scored 8, Sayoddrick Barnes scored 4, and Jamonie Nash scored 2.

(Submitted by Sydney Brookshire) Their next game will be against Navasota on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 8pm at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum on the Sam Houston State University Campus. Tickets will be sold at the gate $6 for adults and students. The Roughriders will be the visiting team.

A fan bus will be traveling to Huntsville for the game. Adults are $5 and students are $3. Students under 16 must have a responsible adult with them. children under 5 are free with an adult. To reserve your seat, contact Center ISD Transportation at 936-598-2880.
