February 10, 2022 - The Joaquin Rams will start their tennis season for 2022 in Gary on March 14, 2022. The team is lead by Head Coach Jared Jones and Assistant Coach Kaitlyn Martinez. February 9, 2022 - The Center Junior Varsity tournament hosted by Kilgore had 20 teams and Center was spread out over 4 sites.

The results were as follows:

  • Boys A singles: Ryan Arndt - Bye, win, loss in quarterfinals
  • Boys B singles: Luke Fausett - Lost 1st rounds and lost his consolation match
  • Girls A singles: Anna Hagler - Bye, win, loss in quarterfinals
  • Girls B singles: Chloe Rachal - 2nd place!!
  • Boys A doubles: John Ford / Charlie Corbell - Bye, win, loss in quarterfinals
  • Boys B doubles: Octavio Hernandez / Nate Solis - Bye, win, loss in quarterfinals
  • Girls A doubles: Hollie Herndon / Gracie Burch - 3rd place!!
  • Girls B doubles: Autum Andrusick / Kaylee Olivas - 1st place!!
  • Mixed A doubles: Wade Collard / Hannah Wages - Lost 1 round, win, and then lost in consolation bracket
  • Mixed B doubles: Logan Galindo / Gracie Boyd - 1st place!!

Overall, Center had top 3 finishes in 4 out of 10 brackets. Good showing and very competitive tournament with 4A, 5A and 6A schools in attendance.

Center High School on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 –

The Center Lady Roughriders varsity basketball team took a hard fought 48-35 point win over the visiting Hudson Lady Hornets on Tuesday. The Lady Roughriders jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and led 6-3 midway through the first period. CHS led 8-6 going into the second frame.

The second period saw Center outpace Hudson 14-11 points. The Lady ‘Riders took a 22-17 advantage into the midway break.

Each team scored 13 points apiece during the third stanza and the final period started with Center holding a 35-30 advantage. The Lady Roughriders would score thirteen points in the final period while the defense stiffened and only allowed Hudson only five points in the final frame.

This game was the Lady Roughriders final home game this season and they recognized senior athletes, Gracie Whisenant, Shakadria Hubbard, Mahalia Ratcliff and Aniyah Boykins for Roughriders Senior Night festivities before the game. Boykins led her team with 29 points for the night. Sophomore May Johnson chipped in 14 points. Hudson was led by Caelyn Williams with 10 points.

Center’s boy’s varsity team next faced off with the Hudson Hornets and the Roughriders led 11-7 at the end of the first period of play. Hudson outscored Center 14-6 in the second stanza and the Hornets led the ‘Riders 21-17 at the midway intermission.

By the end of the third quarter Center had fell behind by 10 points and they trailed Hudson by a 38-28 score. HHS went on to take a 50-42 win over the ‘Riders. Center was led by Mar Mar Evans with 17 points. Makel Johnson added ten points on to the CHS tally sheet. Kaanan Holder led the Hornets with 18 points.

The Roughriders are now 19-9 this season and they are 6-2 in District 17 4A conference play. They will next host the Rusk Eagles on Friday, February 11, 2022. Sub-varsity boy’s competition will begin at 5 p.m. JV and varsity will follow.

February 5, 2022 - Tenaha’s own “Catfish” will prepare his Texas known BBQ Briskets for a BBQ Brisket Sandwich Plate Fundraiser on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 10:30am until 2:30pm at the Center Little League Basketball Game located in front of the Center Middle School.

Plates are $10 and includes a 5" sandwich, chips, drink, and dessert.

All Proceeds go to help fund medical bills for Coach Shanna Dagley and student Klayton Lewis.

Center ISD Library on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 -

Wednesday at Center High School saw senior student athlete MaKaiya Hubbard sign a letter of intent to play softball and study at Navarro College. The signing took place at Center's High School Library with Hubbard's family, faculty, fellow students, friends, and press witnessing the festivities.

CHS Athletic Director Ricky Meeks kicked off the ceremony and said "Reaching the next level shows the amount of hard work and sacrifices MaKaiya has given to help her teams and school."

Center Head Softball Coach Sara Rupp said "Every day she gives her best by working and playing hard. She always wants to get better."

Lady Roughriders Head Basketball Coach Corey Loverson stated " She is the total package academically and athleticly. She is our point guard and always works and plays very hard."

 Hubbard is a multisport athlete at Center playing basketball, softball and cheering, as well as other activities. She intends to pursue a degree in nursing at Navarro College while playing softball on scholrship for the Bulldogs. The school has campuses in Corsicana, Fairfield, Mexia, Midlothian and Waxahachie and is a NJCAA student organization.

January 28, 2022 - The Center Recreation Department is proud to announce that the 2022 Spring Soccer, Softball, and Baseball signups will begin soon.

February 2, 2022 - The Center Varsity tennis team travelled to Kilgore Tuesday, February 1 to compete in a 16 school tournament. The tournament had been rescheduled from Friday, February 4 due to the forecast, but the tournament was unable to be completed yesterday due to rain.

The teams were scattered over 4 sites and each site completed at least 2 rounds of the tournament, so the day was not a complete wash out.

  • Girls doubles A: Sarah Scull / Emilee Elliott were playing for 3rd.
  • Girls doubles B: Sayre Hall / Reese Cockrell were playing for 1st.
  • Boys doubles A: Levi Rodriguez / Lance Holloway completed two rounds (1 win and 1 loss) and 2 matches remaining.
  • Boys doubles B: Erick Rojas / Ryan Jones completed three rounds and were playing for 5th.
  • Boys singles A: Ian Williams had reached the semifinals (top 4).
  • Boys singles B: Ryker Tomlin had completed two rounds (1 win and 1 loss).
  • Girls singles A: Brooke Gaddy had reached the semifinals (top 4).
  • Girls singles B: Anna Hagler won her 1st round and was tied in her quarterfinal match.
  • Mixed doubles A: Ethan McElroy / Arista Lee were in the consolation bracket after a first round loss.
  • Mixed doubles B: Connor McCauley / Jalen Postell were in the consolation bracket.

Upcoming tournaments:
February 8 - JV travels to Kilgore tournament (16 schools entered).
February 11 - V travels to Tyler Legacy tournament (28 schools entered).

Center Roughriders Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 –

The Center Roughriders hosted the Palestine Wildcats on Tuesday in District 17 4A Girls and Boys varsity basketball games.

The first quarter of the girl’s varsity game saw Palestine build a 14-5 lead. Center outpaced PHS 10 points to 9 in the second quarter but the Lady Wildcats still held an 23-15 lead at the midway intermission.

Each team scored nine points apiece during the third stanza and Palestine took a 32-24 lead into the final period. The Palestine offense exploded during the final eight minutes and outscored CHS 24-4 on the way to taking a 56-28 district win.

The top scorers for CHS were Mahalia Ratcliff and May Johnson who each had eight points apiece. Palestine was led by Jumija Clewis with 23 points.

The Lady Roughriders now stand at 6-15 overall this season and they are 3-5 in conference play.

The Center boy’s varsity team took a 65-55 win over the Palestine Wildcats. This win moved Centers record to 18-8 this year. They stand at 5-1 in District 17 4A competition.

The Roughriders led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter and they advanced their lead to 35-26 at the halftime intermission.

Palestine fought back and cut the CHS lead to just one point at 49-48 at the end of the third period. Center outscored PHS 16-7 during the final frame to eventually take the 65-55 win.

Center was led by Mar Mar Evans with 20 points. Teamates Makel Johnson and Cash Cross each had 16 points apiece. Palestine's Dreyon Barrett scored 35 points for the Wildcats.

Center will next travel to Carthage High School on Friday, February 4, 2022 and sub-varsity will begin at 4:30 p.m. and varsity girl’s and boy’s action will follow.

January 31, 2022 - Jacksonville hosted varsity tennis teams from 12 schools and Center finished in the top 4 in multiple events.

Boys A singles: Ian Williams - 4th place
Boys B singles: Ryker Tomlin - lost in quarterfinals

Boys A doubles: Lance Holloway / Levi Rodriguez - 4th place
Boys B doubles: Erick Rojas / Ryan Jones - 1st place

Girls A doubles: Sarah Scull / Emilee Elliott - 1st place
Girls B doubles: Sayre Hall / Reese Cockrell - 1st place

Girls A singles: Brooke Gaddy - won consolation
Girls B singles: Anna Hagler - 4th place

Mixed A doubles: Ethan McElroy / Arista Lee - won consolation
Mixed B doubles: Connor McCauley / Jalen Postell - 2nd place

Overall, in 7 out of 10 events Center finished in the top 4 and in 3 events Center had 1st place finishes.

The tournament was a good start to the spring season.

Next up, the Kilgore Varsity tournament is rescheduled based on the forecast to Tuesday, February 1st and the Junior Varsity Kilgore Tournament is Tuesday, February 8th.

Tenaha High School on January 28, 2022 –

The Timpson Bears girls and boys varsity basketball teams each competed at Tenaha on Friday. The Lady Bears girls team fell to the Lady Tigers by a 44-35 score. The Bears boys beat the Tigers by a 75-72 score.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead and led 6-0 midway through the opening period. Tenaha led 10-4 at the conclusion of the first quarter. The second period was hard fought and Tenaha held a 23-16 lead at the halftime intermission.

The Lady Tigers built on their lead in the third period by outpacing the Lady Bears 12-5 points. Tenaha took a 35-21 advantage into the fourth quarter of play.

The Lady Bears were able to outscore the Lady Tigers 14-9 in the final frame but Tenaha held on for the 44-35 win.

Timpson was led by Emma Ramsey with ten points. Jasmine Dodd was leading scorer for Tenaha with 15.

This win improved the Lady Tigers record to 24-5 overall and they are now 10-0 in District 23 2A competition. The Lady Bears are now 17-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

The boys varsity contest saw Timpson hold a slim 8-7 lead midway through the opening frame. The Bears led 20-17 at the conclusion of the first period. Timpson outpaced Tenaha 19-13 points during the second stanza and the Bears carried a 39-30 advantage into the lockerroom at the midway break.

The third period saw Tenaha claw back and cut the Timpson lead to six points. The game went into the fourth quarter with the Bears holding a 54-48 advantage.

The final frame saw Tenaha outscore Timpson 24-21 but the Bears were able to hold on for the 75-72 win. This win gives Timpson an 18-3 overall record and an 8-0 District 23 2A mark. Tenaha is now 13-6 for the season and 8-2 in conference action.

Ja'tyrian Moore led the Tigers with 27 points. Terry Bussey led Timpson with 22.

Tenaha will travel to San Augustine on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 where junior varsity is slated to tip off at 4:30 p.m. and varsity girls and boys action will follow at Wolves Gymnasium.

Timpson will host the Joaquin Rams on Tuesday, February 1 at Bears Gym. Junior varsity is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. with varsity action to follow.
