How many hours did you work at your job last week? Maybe you're retired and your time is your own. But for you that are still part of the workforce - did you work 20 hours, 40, 60, more? On this day, in 1926, Henry Ford made a revolutionary decision. He limited all of his factory workers to five eight-hour days, a 40-hour work week.

This morning I'll sing a song at a memorial service for a friend. He endured a long illness that left him a shut-in for the last months of his life. During those several months, I had several opportunities to visit him. He loved gospel music, so I'd bring my guitar and we'd share some favorites.

If you're a faithful reader of these little daily devotions, you noticed that I didn't post one last Friday. I had one ready, but when I got up that morning, my wife uttered those four dreaded words, "The Internet is down!" But today my service is back up, so I share this light, inspiring thought.

Last night we had a nice little storm and, as I set on the porch and watched it, I was reminded of a story about wind and rain and floods - a story that ends a famous sermon.

In 122 AD, the emperor of Rome was named Hadrian. On September 13th of that year, he began to build a wall across Britain, the northern border of his empire. It was over 80 miles long and came to be known as Hadrian's Wall. That was almost 2000 years ago, and some of that wall is still there.

There are moments that happen in every generation that are so earth shattering, that everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news. For my parent's generation it was December 7, 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. For my generation it was November 22, 1963, the assassination of President Kennedy. And for all of us, it was September 11, 2001.
