July 21, 2022 - The Shelby County Commissioners took no action to lift the burn ban during their July 20, 2022, meeting due to the continued drought and need for a substantial amount of rain.
Stevie Smith, Commissioner Precinct 3, explained his desire to borrow funds from the CRF (Coronavirus Relief Fund) to purchase a new truck for his precinct.
He said he looked at a pickup truck at Center Motor Company and has been looking over his budget with Clint Porterfield, County Auditor, and he said he would be cutting it a little close on his budget.
July 19, 2022 - State Highway 7 (SH 7) East at the intersection of SL 500 was the scene of a two-vehicle crash July 14, 2022.
Emergency responders with the Center Fire Department and Texas Department of Public Safety arrived at the scene to assist the Center Police Department officers.
July 18, 2022 - Attendees were shocked during the July 5 meeting of the Tenaha City Council when the executive session was interrupted and the mayor requested law enforcement escort a council member out.
The meeting was closing in on completion when mayor O'Neal Jones exited from the executive session meeting room into the main meeting room and requested Chief Scott Burkhalter escort Durand Steadman from the room. Mayor Jones then walked to the main meeting room table and took a seat.
July 14, 2022 - State Highway 7 (SH 7) East at the intersection with State Loop 500 (SL 500) was the scene of a crash Monday, July 11, 2022, involving three-vehicles.
July 13, 2022 - The Shelby County Commissioners met in court Wednesday, July 13, 2022, and took no action to lift the burn ban with no rain in sight at this time, and as a result left the ban in place.
July 12, 2022 - Several law enforcement agencies, assisting the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, responded to a residence on CR 2335 near FM 417 Tuesday afternoon, July 12, 2022, in relation to an incident at a residence.
July 11, 2022 - Homeowners in Texas are eligible for grant assistance administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and it is meant to provide eligible homeowners with grants to pay past due mortgage payments and property taxes, insurance, and HOA fees.
The program is the Texas Homeowner Assistance Fund (TXHAF) program which is funded by the Homeowner Assistance Fund under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. For those who qualify, the program is meant to help avoid foreclosure as a result of delinquent mortgage or property tax payments.
