October 22, 2016 – The Timpson Bears varsity football team dropped Friday’s District 11 2A-2 game with the visiting Overton Mustangs by a 31-21 score. Overton never trailed but had to stave off two Bears comeback attempts.
Overton deferred the opening possession and kicked the ball to the Bears after winning the coin toss. Timpson started their first possession at their own 35 yard line. Jordan Osby gained Timpson’s initial first down with a 13-yard run which took the ball down near midfield. A 9-yard sack by Overton’s Darius Herndon set Timpson back into a second-down-and 19 yards to go situation and ultimately forced the Bears into punting the ball to the Mustangs. After a 41-yard Joe Clark punt return, OHS used just three plays to score the game’s first touchdown. Jacob Marshall capped the drive with an 8-yard keeper for the score. The Mustang’s extra point kick was good and the Mustangs led 7-0 with 8:01 left in the first period.
Timpson’s Jordan Osby returned the Overton kickoff 40 yards to set the Bears offense up at the Overton 48 yard line to start the Bears’ second drive. On second down Osby raced 48 yards for the Bears first score. Timpson’s extra point kick attempt missed and THS trailed 6-7 with 6:57 left in the first quarter.
The Bears defense stopped OHS on their next offensive drive, but with ten minutes remaining in the second quarter, Overton got their second touchdown, on a 14-yard run by fullback Hudson Rogers, and the Mustangs took a 13-6 lead. With just 32 seconds left in the first half, Marshall found Nicolas Croteau in the corner of the end zone on a swing pass and OHS took a 19-6 lead into to locker room at halftime.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Overton took a 25-6 lead on a three play, 55-yard scoring drive, capped with a 4-yard quarterback keeper run by Marshall with 10:03 remaining in the third stanza.
Timpson answered back with a nine play scoring drive of their own which was capped with a 3-yard Osby touchdown run for the score with 5:17 left in the third frame. This pulled THS to within 13-25 of Overton.
Overton extended their lead to 31-13 with another Croteau touchdown reception with 5:09 left in the game.
Timpson again fought back to pull to within 21-31 after Osby covered 71 yards in two plays, and scored on a 42-yard break-away run for a touchdown, and ran in a 2-point conversion, with 4:48 left to play. This proved to be the game’s final score.
Overton rushed for 284 yards and Timpson ran for 237. The Mustangs completed 9 passes on 13 attempts for 88 yards. Timpson completed 1 pass on 4 attempts for 16 yards. Timpson lost a fumble with 4:35 remaining in the first period and threw an interception at the end of the first half. OHS had no turnovers. Timpson held the advantage in penalty yardage with 0 yards assessed on one declined penaly, Overton was penalized for 40 yards on 4 miscues. The Mustangs had 372 total yards of offense, while the Bears totaled 253.
The Bears will next host the Mount Enterprise Wildacats at Timpson’s John Hebert Eakin Stadium, next Friday, October 28 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are 1-7 and lost to Wortham 47-14 last Friday at home. MEHS is 0-3 in District 11 2A competition.

October 21, 2016 - Timpson ISD Bear Update
The Bears play the Overton Mustangs at home tonight (October 21st) at 7:00 p.m. Come out and back the Bears at the Pink Out Game!
Lady Bear Senior Night - The Lady Bears had Senior Night Tuesday, October 18. Coach Foster wants to personally thank everyone involved in helping make Senior Night a successful time. The seniors are Holly Hughes, Molly Sanford, Ana Deleon and Cedesha Curtis. Our coaching staff is excited about the foundation these girls have created for future success in Lady Bear volleyball.

October 21, 2016 - The Tenaha Tigers attended the 22A District Cross Country meet in New Summerfield on October 18th. The Varsity girls and Varsity boys clinched both district champions. Both teams will compete at the regional meet at Sam Houston State on October 29th. The Jr. High boys team won the district championship as well. Way to go running Tigers! Lauri Sisk, Coach

October 18, 2016 - At the area tournament, the Roughriders Tennis team Won 19-0 over Gladewater and 15-4 over Spring Hill. Following a 12-7 score against Kilgore, the team has advanced to Regionals as Area Champions.
Regional tournament will be played November 2nd and 3rd.

October 14, 2016 - The Tennis Team will be in Longview, Monday October 17th, to begin their playoff run with their Area Quarterfinals match up against Gladewater.
The Riders are 10-4 and headed into the Area tournament as District 16 Champions playing against the 4th place District 15 finisher in Gladewater.
Quarterfinal match up will begin at 9am at Longview HS and the winner will advance to the Area Semifinals at 1pm in the same location.
First and 2nd place finishers will be determined on Tuesday, October 18th at Longview HS and both 1st and 2nd will advance to the Region 2 4A Team Tennis Championships held in Grapevine October 27-28.
The Riders are currently ranked 3rd in Region 2 and 9th in the state and looking to carry some recent momentum into the playoffs and make a deep run in the UIL Team Tennis Playoffs. Only one team from each region advances to the State Tournament held on November 2-3 at Texas A&M and our new region alignment holds four previous state qualifying teams over the last two years.
The Center Rider tennis team is up to the challenge which all begins Monday in Longview. Go Riders!!
October 12, 2016 – The Center Roughriders varsity football team will travel to Carthage High School to take a shot at boosting their District 4A-1 record to 4-0. Center is currently 3-0 and has a 5-2 overall mark. The ‘Riders beat the Chapel Hill Bulldogs 35-28 last week. Carthage is 3-2 overall and fell to 0-2 last Friday when they lost to Kilgore 41-34 on the road. Kickoff at Bulldog Stadium will be Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Joaquin Rams boosted their overall record to 4-2 last week when they started District 11 2A-1 play with a 24-7 home win against the Alto Yellowjackets. This was the first Rams’ win over the Alto varsity football program in school history. Joaquin hosts the Shelbyville Dragons at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.
The Dragons are 1-5 overall and started conference play with a 40-24 loss to San Augustine last Friday. Last season the Dragons embarrassed the Rams by beating them 48-0 at home.
The Tenaha Tigers are now 6-0, and 1-0 in District 11 2A-2 competition, after starting conference action with a 56-6 road win over Mount Enterprise. Tenaha hasn’t lost a conference game since 2008. They face Wortham High School on the road Friday at 7:00 p.m.
The Wortham Bulldogs are 3-3 overall and lost to the Timpson Bears 20-7 in their first conference showdown last Friday. Timpson is 3-2 overall and are 1-0 in District 11 2A-2 competition. They will travel to Grapeland to face the Sandies at 7 p.m. Grapeland is 3-3 overall and dropped their first conference game 40-26 to Overton, on the road, last Friday.
October 13, 2016 - The 2016 Texas Association of Bass Clubs held their State Championship September 24-25th on Lake Livingston Reservoir. 24 bass clubs were represented from across the state of Texas and the Shelby County Bass Anglers proved once again that they are the best in the state!
There has never been a club to win back to back titles since the inception of the TABC in 1970. The SCBA captured their first state championship last year on Lake Falcon. October 13, 2016 - Center Varsity Roughriders travel to Carthage on Friday, October 14th to play in Bulldog Stadium with the game starting at 7:30pm. Tickets at the gate are $6 for everyone.
Pre-game ticket sales are $3 for students and $5 for adults on Wednesday and Thursday only at the Center High School and Center ISD administration offices from 8am until 3pm.
