May 15, 2016 - The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team has moved to the Regional Semifinal round after defeating the Elkhart Slocum Lady Mustangs in two straight games of a best-of three game Region III Quarterfinal round playoff.

Joaquin beat the Mustangs in Game 1 by a 9-3 score, on Thursday, by utilizing a 12-5 hit advantage. The Lady Rams got a complete seven inning pitching performance from Lexi Hutchins, who struck out five batters.They were led offensively by Katherine Patrick who went 3-3 and had a RBI.

On Friday in Game 2, Joaquin beat Elkhart by a score of 8-4. This eliminated Slocum in the best-of-three game format.

Slocum gained a 1-0 lead when Taylor Ives scored on a throwing error after reaching base on a single.

The Lady Rams tied the game at 1-1, in the top of the third inning, with a score by Katherine Patrick.

Slocum reclaimed the lead at 2-1,  in the bottom of the third inning, with an RBI double by Camryn Vickers.

Kristen Harvey tied the game at 2-2 when she scored in the fifth inning on a long sacrifice fly ball hit by Hannah Bonner. The Lady Rams exploded during a rally in the sixth inning which include four hits, two walks, and five runs scored. Joaquin added a score by Randi Goates in the top of the seventh inning and took a 8-2 advantage into the final half of the last inning.

Caitlyn Hogan and Jessi Ives scored to pull the Lady Mustangs to within 8-4. The Lady Rams tightened up defensively and this would prove to be the final score.

Joaquin will next face the Harleton Lady Wildcats next week with the time and place to be announced at the beginning of the school week.

May 13, 2016 - The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team used six timely hits and seven well pitched innings, by senior Cole Powdrill, to take a 5-2 win over the Douglass Indians, on Thursday at Gary High School. The game was the first contest of a best-of-three Area playoff elimination.

The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Hunter Harper reached base on a botched pop-up in the infield, and later scored on a Nate Belrose single. Cole Powdrill reached base on a single, and later scored on a Tanner Williams sacrifice bunt.

The Rams added three more scores in the bottom of the third inning with hits from Brock Lawson, Belrose, Klay Adkison, and a walk each by Williams and Tray Wilkerson.

Logan Ammons scored Douglass' first run, in the fourth inning, when the bases were loaded with two infield hits and an error, and he advanced home on a fielder's choice.

Grant Holland cut the Rams lead to 6-2 in the fifth inning after he reached base by being hit by a pitch, and later scored on an RBI single by Ammons. This proved to be the final score of the contest.

JHS finished the night with a 6-5 hitting advantage. They had one walk and also reached with a free base due to a hit batter. Each team committed one error.

Joaquin's junior center fielder, Nate Belrose led his team offensively with three singles and two RBI's. Teammate Cole Powdrill pitched the seven inning contest and struck out six while only allowing one walk. Indians pitcher, Grant Ammons struck out ten Rams on the night.

Game 2 will take place at Gary High School Friday at 7 p.m.

The Joaquin Lady Rams softball team won their regional playoff game with the Elkhart Slocum Lady Mustangs by a 9-3 score, on Thursday at Nacogdoches High School. They will play Game 2 at Nacogdoches High School, on Friday at 5 p.m.

May 10, 2016 - The Joaquin Rams versus Douglass playoff series begins Thursday, May 12th at 7:00 pm for game 1. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday, May 13th at 7:00pm and if needed, game 3 will be played Saturday at 11:30 am. All games are at Gary ISD.

May 9, 2016 - Joaquin Pitching Machine boys showed up and showed out this past weekend! These boys played in the Mansfield Open Tournament this past Saturday, May 7, 2016. They started out with three wins and one loss. Then made a comeback to bring home the Championship. Congratulations to the players and coaches on a job well done!

May 9, 2016 - Joaquin Lady Rams vs Slocum Playoff Series will start with the first game on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 6:00pm. Game two will be Friday, May 13th at 5:00pm with game three to follow if needed. All games will be played at Nacogdoches High School.

May 9, 2016 - The Center Roughriders varsity baseball team saw their 2016 playoff run come to and end when they fell to the Hudson Hornets on the road 4-3, on Friday, and fell again on Saturday, at home by a 7-1 margin. Both games were extra inning affairs. Friday's game went eight frames and Saturday's game was 11 innings.

In Friday's contest, Hornet Jessie Cravy proved to be a big difference maker. He hit safely for two doubles and a single, and pitched all eight innings, striking out 14 Roughrider batters.

'Rider Jaxon Covington pitched 7 2/3 innings and  struck out eight HHS batters. Teammate Logan Mitchell came into the game late, as a pinch-hitter, and delivered an RBI hit which helped send the game into extra innings.

Hudson out hit Center 9-5 during the game.

On Saturday, the game remained tied at 1-1 for 10 innings, until Hudson scored six unearned runs to take a 7-1 lead in the top of the Eleventh inning.

Center ended the year with a 13-9-1 regular season mark.

May 4, 2016 - Congratulations goes out to Jeron Boykins for being named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) 2A Boys All State Basketball Team. Boykins is a senior at Shelbyville High School and is coached by Coach Jerod Roland.

According to the TABC website, TABC awards are nominated by Texas High School basketball coaches and voted on by Regional coordinators and committees. All awards are announced between the Boys State Basketball Tournament and the end of school.

May 4, 2016 - Joaquin, Shelbyville, Tenaha and Timpson High Schools all headed to Palestines Wildcat Stadium last Friday and Saturday to compete in the UIL Class 2A Regional Track and Field Championships.

Of our four county schools Shelbyville and Timpson came away with the most bragging rights with five athletes qualifying for state competition in four events.

For Shelbyville, Lady Dragon Bailey Rabalais qualified with a second place discus throw of 111.07 feet. Keana Osby won the regional 800 meter run title by posting a 2:23.18 minute time. The schools relay team of Hannah Hall, Kyra Ross, Keana Osby, and Cleosha Jeter won the 4x200 meter relay with a 1:46.22 time, and won the 4X400 meter relay by blazing through the coarse with a time of 4:07.95.

Timpson's  Devonta Thompson qualified for state in the 100 Meter Dash with a 10.6 second time. Chandler Burgay placed second to qualify with a discus throw of 129.06 feet. Jordan Osby placed third to reach the podium in the triple jump with a 42.05 feet total. Nictaeo Scourton qualified with a second place shot put throw of 46.00 feet. Hayden Smith won the 400 meter dash with a 50.76 second time to move on to the next level.

Joaquin Ram Kieth Johnson won the 100 meter hurdles with a scorching 15.31 second mark.

The state meet will take place at on May 12-14, at Mike Myers Stadium, University of Texas in Austin. 

April 29, 2016 - The Lady Riders will battle against the Hudson Lady Hornets in the 2nd round of the Bi-District Playoffs this evening, Friday, April 29, 2016. Game time has been moved to 5:00 p.m. due to inclement weather. Gate will open at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
