September 20, 2017 - The “Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER)” was recently revised and updated in 2015. A major change in the revision now requires all food employees to complete an accredited food handlers training program within 60 days of employment, effective September 2016.

September 5, 2017 - When you think of 4-H most think of a youth organization that provides opportunities with the livestock, horses, food, textiles, photography, shooting sports, and leadership, just to name a few. These projects are some of the banner programs that are offered but 4-H is more than that. This year, Shelby County 4-H has kicked-off two new projects, Robotics and Archery. In addition, Shelby County 4-H Club now has a permanent monthly meeting place at the new Extension office located at 266 Nacogdoches Street in Center.
September 4, 2017 - At the recent 4-H Kick-off event, Shelby County Extension agents Lane Dunn and Jheri-Lynn McSwain presented youth members with the “I Dare You” award and county-level “Gold Star” award. The “I Dare You” awards were presented to Wesley Wages of Center 4-H Club, son of Bryan and Dee Wages, and Lance Holloway of Center 4-H Club, son of John Henry and Chelsea Holloway.

August 11, 2017 - Friday August 18th a multi-county program will be held at the Angelina County Extension office landowners interested in the management of wildlife will have the opportunity to learn from industry professionals how they can better manage for white tailed deer.
Sessions for this event include deer necropsy, prescribed fire, Managed Land Deer Program updates, antler restrictions data, and methods to deter feral hogs and beavers.
August 4, 2017 - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is comprised of 12 districts covering all 254 counties in Texas, and Shelby County is part of District 5 which is composed of 22 counties in the East region.
