August 16, 2018 - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is hosting a Poultry Festival Broiler Show Workshop on Thursday, August 16th, 2018 from 6pm until 8pm at 266 Nacogdoches St. in the Old Elementary School Library Building.
The County Extension Office will be holding the annual Broiler Show workshop which is a free program open to everyone. You will learn about chick maintenance, feeding, how to construct your pen, plus much more! If you have any questions, please call the Extension office at 936-598-7744.
July 2, 2018 - Last day to order broilers for the Shelby County 4 H and FFA Broiler show is here!
A pen of 30 chicks can be ordered and purchased for $30. Show rules and paperwork may be picked-up at the Extension office at 266 Nacogdoches Street (Old Elementary School Library Bldg.) All orders are due no later than July 2nd and are payable by check or money order only. Tentative date for pick-up of show chickens is the week of August 20, 2018. The 2018 Broiler Show and Sale will be held on October 6, 2018.

July 24, 2018 (Flyer/Registration Form) - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is hosting Shelby County Winter Forage Seminar on August 14, 2018 at 6pm in the Extension office. The cost is $10 per person in advance and $15 at the door. RSVP by August 9, 2018 at the Extension office or by mail with payment.

July 9, 2018 - Invasive brush can decrease forage productivity for livestock or decrease brush diversity valuable for wildlife habitat. Most ranchers find themselves constantly considering options for brush management, weighing not only the cost and effectiveness, but also when they can find the time to complete the treatments. As temperatures continue to climb across our area and the chances of rainfall seem to be weakening, it’s important to consider the effect this will have on any herbicide applications.
June 11, 2018 - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service - Shelby County will be hosting their annual 4-H Kids Day Camps featuring cooking and sewing during June and July in Center, Texas. This program is open to all youth ages 9 through 18, and you do not have to be a member of 4-H to participate.
May 18, 2018 - The 2018 District 5 4-H Shoot was held at Pines Gun Club in Lufkin, TX on May 5th. District 5 consists of 22 counties in East Texas. Representing Shelby County 4-H Shooters were: Emily Bennett and Rex Payne. The results were as follows:
