David's Daily Devotion for September 19

September 19, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, September 19.

When I began writing these daily devotions four years ago, I made a promise to myself that I would not abuse your time. You're a busy person, places to go, things to do, people to see. So, I've tried to never write more than it would take you more than two minutes to read. Today's devotion will most certainly come under the wire.

One verse. One thought. One prayer.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

David's Daily Devotion for September 17

September 17, 2024 - Good Morning! It's September 17.

One of the most celebrated and influential songwriters of the 20th century was born on this day in 1923. His brief, six-year career produced 55 songs that made the top ten charts, 11 that went all the way to #1. The list of famous musicians that he inspired is too long to mention. In 2010, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. His name was Hank Williams.

David's Daily Devotion for September 16

September 16, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Monday, September 16.

Misidentification can be embarrassing. Have you ever called someone by the wrong name or asked them how their Aunt Bertha is doing after her recent surgery, and then realized that this is a completely different person who does not have an Aunt Bertha. Embarrassing. I once had an experience like this, without even speaking a word.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 13

September 13, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Friday, September 13.

I have two friends here in Center, Texas who are celebrating their birthday today - on Friday the 13th. One of them remembers another Friday the 13th when he turned 13! He says 13 is his lucky number. Not many people would say that. Do you get nervous when this day rolls around? Enough people do that there's a word for it - parakevidekatriaphobia. Say that three times fast!

David's Daily Devotion for September 12

September 12, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, September 12.

Last night, members of the First Baptist Center choir visited a home bound woman in our community. Once a month, instead of meeting for our regular mid-week rehearsal, we leave the church to go out and sing for someone who is no longer able to leave their house and come to church. This ministry has been going on for a year and a half and has been such a blessing to our singers.

David's Daily Devotion for September 11

September 11, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, September 11.

I've always been a reader. I can remember, when I was a kid, staying up after my bedtime, reading under the blanket with a flashlight. That's probably why I had to start wearing glasses in 3rd grade. In my old age I find myself reading more and more. Being somewhat of a solitary soul, I have to admit that I sometimes prefer the company of a good book to the company of people. And so, today, I'm thinking about famous last lines from famous books. Here's a few of my favorites.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 6

September 6, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Friday, September 6.

Do you enjoy antique stores? Second to bookstores, they're my favorite place to spend time on a leisurely Saturday afternoon. Over the last few years, however, I've had a few disconcerting moments in antique stores. While walking through the cluttered aisles, I'll notice something, usually a toy or a game, from my own childhood - maybe an Etch-A-Sketch or a View Master or a Magic Eight Ball. And it is in moments like these, that I am struck by the sobering truth that I, too, am an antique!
