David's Daily Devotion for October 17

October 17, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, October 17.

The temperature gauge on my shed this morning read 39 degrees! Autumn has arrived. I love the "seams" of the seasons - those few days, four times each year, when nature tells us that a change has come. There's that moment in May when you can suddenly smell summer, that week in March when the world turns from black and white into color, that first winter frost.

David's Daily Devotion for October 15

October 15, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, October 15.

Growing up, I read a lot of science fiction - Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Ray Bradbury. I was fascinated by the concept of time travel, of traveling to the past, or the future, in a time machine. Maybe, in our lifetime, we'll see that fiction become fact. We've witnessed enough technological miracles in the last 50 years to make us believe that anything is possible.

David’s Daily Devotion for Oct. 14

October 14, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Monday, October 14.

Today we focus on Change, on Christianity, on Columbus.  Happy Columbus Day, by the way, or maybe you had forgotten about this holiday. That would be understandable - Columbus Day isn't what it used to be. But if you've studied the history of this holiday, you know that it has always been marked by change.

David’s Daily Devotion for Oct. 10

October 10, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, October 10.

On this day, 244 years ago, a hurricane struck the Caribbean island of Barbados. The storm had no name - we didn't start naming them until the 1950's. And we don't know all the details - careful records weren't kept until the 1850's. But we know this. By the time it played out on the east coast of Canada, close to 30,000 people had lost their lives. The Storm of 1780 was the deadliest In history.

David’s Daily Devotion for Oct. 9

October 9, 2024 - Good Morning!  It's Wednesday, October 9.

At the close of yesterday's devotion, we left Horatio Spafford at a low point in his life, as he experienced the tragic loss of all four of his daughters in a shipwreck.  It was a moment that inspired a song that has given comfort and hope to millions of worshippers over the last 150 years - "It is Well With My Soul".
