David's Daily Devotion for November 15

November 15, 2024 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, November 15.

On this day, in 1917, Oswald Chambers died. The Scottish minister was in Cairo, ministering to British soldiers fighting there during World War I. He was offering the men a home away from home, and words of encouragement and hope. Chambers developed appendicitis, but delayed going to the hospital, not wanting to take a bed away from a wounded G.I. His appendix burst and he died in Egypt at the age of 43.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 13

November 13, 2024 - Good Morning!  It’s Wednesday, November 13.

When I was a teenager, and soon after my salvation experience, my church youth group would regularly go out “soul-winning”.  Sometimes we’d go door-to-door, sometimes to a mall or a park, and we’d approach total strangers with the good news about God’s love.  Pretty scary at first - but it got easier in time.  And we always took a special tool with us, gospel tracts.  Even if our contact wasn’t interested in a conversation, they would usually take a tract.

*Honor to the soldiers and sailors everywhere, who bravely bear their country’s cause. Abraham Lincoln

In Mark 8:11-13 we find these words - “The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test Him, they asked for a sign from heaven. Jesus sighed deeply and said, ‘Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to it’. Then He left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.

David's Daily Devotion for November 6

November 6, 2024 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, November 6.

I usually write these devotions the day before they’re sent out. I stayed up past my bedtime last night to watch election coverage, but when I finally went to bed, the result was still in doubt. So, I’ll focus on another election. On this date, in 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the president of the United States of America.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 4

November 4, 2024 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, November 4.

Tomorrow is a big day, an important day, a serious day. So, something lighter this morning.

I love words. I find them endlessly fascinating. For instance, why do flammable and inflammable mean the same thing? Here are some more synonyms that seem like they should be opposites - bone/debone; valuable/invaluable; regardless/irregardless; press/depress; caretaker/caregiver
