April 17, 2025 - Can you by an eye of faith visualize what it would have been like to be one of the first people to visit the empty tomb of the risen Lord on the first day of the week? I have tried to imagine how Mary Magdalene and the others must have felt early on that Sunday morning.
April 10, 2025 - I can remember as a boy, watching the potter at work at the wheel at the old Marshall Pottery. I would stand mesmerized by the skill with which he would throw a lump of clay on the wheel and mold it into a work of art. They made many beautiful pieces of pottery in those days.
April 4, 2025 - Just for a moment, ponder the message of the following passages of scripture. Matthew 12:36-37, “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
March 27, 2025 - One of the great inventions of the 20th century was the washing machine. It totally changed the back-breaking way that laundry had to be done. With the washing machine, you can put the clothes in, turn it on, come back in a few minutes and clean clothes are ready to be put in the dryer or hung on the clothesline (yes, some folks still do that!)
March 20, 2025 - It was in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:9 that Jesus said, “blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.” For more than 20 centuries this great word has been knocking at the closed door of the hearts of men and women, largely in vain. We have said yes with our lips. Yet, in our hearts, we have said, “blessed are the sowers of discord.” Blessed are the war makers and blessed are the fomenters of strife. We see it every day in our land.
March 13, 2025 - Once upon a time, I thought I might like to take up the game of golf. I played a little for a few years, and then realized, golf was not my game. The men I played with (my grandfather and some of his friends) were guys that believed strongly in the mulligan.
February 27, 2025 - The cross on Calvary’s hill was already casting its shadow over Jesus and he had just finished eating the Passover with the twelve. Sitting there at the table, he told them that one of them was going to betray him.
February 13, 2025 - I remember hearing Doris Day singing on an album a popular show tune entitled “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.” I think those words often describe the way that we feel. Most of us have burdens and cares that others know nothing about.
February 6, 2025 - When Jesus walked the dusty roads of Palestine, he had the ability to see more than just the veneer that people offered for the rest of the world to see. He could look inside a person and see what was in their heart, he could see more than just what they were, he could also see their potential.
January 30, 2025 - There are two passages of scripture that tell us in plain language who we belong to and the price that was paid for us. In I Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul tells us that we are not our own but that we were bought with a price.
