January 23, 2025 - When we read the “Sermon On The Mount” in Matthew 6:24, we hear Jesus tell us that “no man can serve two masters.” Yet, in spite of that, there are many in our day and time who want to try to serve the Lord and at the same time be a friend of the world with all its baubles.
January 16, 2025 - In case you haven’t noticed, we are living in a world which is in a hurry. Sometime when you are in Wal-Mart or the Mall, observe how rushed and impatient people seem to be. Notice the furrowed brows, the faces lined with worry and anxiety, the haggard and hurried look. More than anything, notice the tenseness of the people around you. There often seems to be a tension on the verge of hysterics in the very atmosphere. The tempo of our lives has never been faster and the pressure of life has never been more intense than it is now.
January 9, 2025 - Have you ever watched a small child as they observe the simplest things in life? I love to watch my grandsons as they marvel at the small creatures that God has made. Small children see the beauty in butterflies that often as adults we take for granted. They observe ants and various other bugs. Truly, small children “wonder” at the creation and order of this world around them.
December 19, 2024 - There is a sad and tragic statement in the Gospel According to Luke in regard to the coming of our Savior into this world. Dr. Luke tells us that when Jesus came into the world he was “wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn.”
December 12, 2024 - Did you ever wake up early Sunday morning, the neighbors are all in bed, the streets are quiet and the yards are empty? The world is asleep as you prepare for worship on the Lord’s day.
(Note: I wish I could claim originality for this, but I found it in a file in my office, I have had it for many years and it contains some valuable food for thought.)
November 29, 2024 - It’s Thanksgiving Day! It will be a day of good food and family time and watching football games. Most of us will eat much more than we should and then wonder why we ate everything we did when we are so miserable. I often wonder if among the food, family and football if we really pause to realize just how much we have to be thankful for.
November 7, 2024 - Have you ever noticed how complicated some folks want to make religion? We live in a world of problems. Preachers even spend a lot of time pointing out the problems of our time.
November 1, 2024 - I once read where someone said the most dangerous thing in the world is to try to leap over a chasm in two jumps. That ranks right up there with the story of the young boy who cut his puppy’s tail off an inch at the time so it wouldn’t hurt so badly by cutting the entire tail off all at once.
