January 28, 2025 - The Roughriders and Lady Riders continue district play tonight, January 28, as they travel to Bullard to take on the Panthers and Lady Panthers.
The ladies lead off with tip-off time around 6:15 (or after the previous JV game). The Pregame Show will begin near 6:00 featuring a visit with head coach Kevin Smith. In their last match-up, Center beat Bullard in overtime. With only three games to go, the Ladies must win out to keep playoff hopes alive.
The boys game is scheduled immediately after the ladies (around 7:30). During the Crossover Show (between the two games), we'll meet the Lady Rider of the Game, then visit with men's head coach Hiram Harrison. The Roughriders and the Panthers are currently tied for first place in district with 4-1 records.
During the Halftime Show we'll visit with a fan live from the stadium bleachers; stay with us through the Postgame Show.

Center Roughriders Gymnasium on Friday, January 24, 2025 –
The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team took their first District 17 4A loss on Friday when they fell by a narrow 68-67 score to the visiting Madisonville Mustangs during a game which was close throughout. The Roughriders now stand at 14-7 overall and 4-1 in District 17 4A.
Center led midway through the first period by a 6-5 point score. By the end of the opening period the Mustangs held a 14-12 advantage. Madisonville held the game’s only double-digit lead midway through the second stanza when they held a 27-17 point lead. By halftime the Roughriders had tied the game back up at 31-31. Center gained a 5-point advantage over the Mustangs midway through the third period when they held a 39-34 lead. By the end of the third stanza Madisonville had cut the CHS lead to 49-48. The fourth quarter saw the two teams have 13 lead swaps. MHS led 56-55 midway through the final period and held on for the 68-67 win at game’s end.
The Roughriders were led by senior guard Tim Johnson with 25 points and senior forward Jakevin Robinson scored 21. MHS was led by junior guard Tristan Whaley.
The Roughriders will head to Bullard on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 for another district game at 7 p.m. at Panthers Gymnasium.
Center Roughriders Gymnasium on Friday, January 24, 2025 –
The Center Lady Roughriders varsity basketball team is struggling at times this season but are also showing improvement. One sign of the program turning around is that after they fell by a 68-53 score to the Madisonville Lady Mustangs three weeks ago but they regrouped to battle MHS to a very tight game at Roughriders Gym on Friday. The game started out very tight early and CHS trailed 6-4 midway through the first period and then trailed just 12-13 after one complete quarter. At halftime Madisonville held a 21-20 lead.
The third period saw the Lady Mustangs begin to slightly distance themselves and they held a 28-24 advantage midway in the third frame and they led 37-31 going into the final period of play. Center didn’t give up and they clawed their way back into the contest. By the late stages of the game three free throws by sophomore point guard Journee Smith pulled the Lady Riders to within just three points of the Lady Mustangs at 42-45. However, Madisonville was able to expire the remaining clock and earn the 46-42 win.
The Lady Mustangs were led scoring by Khia Byrd with 11 points and Shania Morning with 10. The Lady Roughriders were led by Journee Smith with a game-high 14 points and Edneeuna Barnes with 10.
Center will head to Bullard on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 for a 6:15 p.m. game at Panthers Gymnasium.
Center now stands at 8-17 overall and they hold a 1-6 District 17 4A conference mark. Bullard is at 18-11 overall and 5-2 in District 17 4A.
January 24, 2025 - The Roughriders and Lady Riders continue district play tonight (Friday, January 24) as they host the Madisonville Mustangs at the new Roughrider Colosseum.
Before the game, we'll have a special Coach Rick Meeks Show at 5:30, live from courtside. We'll get set for both basketball games by chatting with coaches Kevin Smith & Hiram Harrison and take a peek at the other Roughrider Sports getting underway.
The Lady Riders will tip off after the final JV Game (around 6:15). The ladies have lost their last three games by 3, 1, and 3 points. With the end of the season only four games away, they've got to start a winning streak at home tonight.
The boys game is scheduled for 7:30. During the Crossover Show (between the two games), we'll meet the Lady Rider of the Game, then get you ready for the men's game. With their come-from-behind win Wednesday in Hudson, the Roughriders are 4-0 and at the top of the District 17 Race.

Timpson Bears Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 –

Both the Joaquin Lady Rams and Rams varsity basketball programs travelled to Timpson High School on Wednesday for District 23 2A conference basketball games with the Lady Bears and Bears. The Lady Bears came away with a narrow 40-35 win and the Bears took a lopsided 74-30 win over the Rams.
The girl’s game was close early with the game tied at 5-5 points midway through the first period. Timpson held a 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bears extended their lead to 16-7 midway through the second stanza but Joaquin fought back to just trail 17-12 at the midway intermission. The game was tied at 21-21 halfway through the third frame but Timpson held a narrow 27-25 point advantage going into the final period. The Lady Bears built a 32-29 lead by the midpoint of the final quarter and held on to take the 40-35 point win. The win gives THS a 15-13 overall win-loss record and a 9-1 District 23 2A mark. Joaquin stands at 9-13 overall and at 4-5 in District 23 action.
Timpson was led by Maliah Norris with 12 points. Natalie Johnson and Taylor Stewart each scored 9 points. Joaquin was led by freshman center Sevanna Stotts who scored a game-high 17 points.
The boy’s game saw Timpson jump out to a 14-4 lead early in the first period and they led the Rams 22-4 by the end of the first quarter. Halftime saw the Bears ahead of the Rams 41-13. THS led 64-22 going into the final quarter on their way to the 74-30 point win.
Timpson is at 11-10 overall this season and they hold a 6-2 District 23 2A conference mark. Joaquin is at 0-8 both for the season and in District 23 play.
High scorers for Timpson were Jackson Campbell with 44 points and JJ Garner had 28. Joaquin was led by Cooper Bragg and Conner Rios who each scored six points apiece.
January 22, 2025 - The Roughriders and Lady Riders continue district play (albeit one night later due to wintry weather!) on this Wednesday night, January 22 as they travel to Hudson to take on the Hornets and Lady Hornets.
The ladies lead off with the earlier-than-usual tip-off time of 5 pm. The Pregame Show will begin at 4:50 featuring a visit with head coach Kevin Smith. As they begin the second half of the season, The Lady Riders and Hornets are tied with a 1-4 record so it's a must-win game for both.
The boys game is scheduled for 6:15pm. During the Crossover Show (between the two games), we'll meet the Lady Rider of the Game, then visit with men's head coach Hiram Harrison. The Roughriders and the Hornets are currently tied for first place in district with 3-0 records.

Friday saw the Tenaha Lady Tigers and Tigers high school basketball teams head east for District 23 2A conference games. In varsity action, the Tenaha Lady Tigers beat the Lady Rams by a 53-34 score, and the boy’s action saw the Tigers take a lopsided win by a 91-31 final score.
`Leading scorers for Joaquin in the girl’s game was Kailee Clark and Sevana Stotts who each had nine points. For Tenaha Kaedynce Cox had 23 points and Arianna Dagley had 11.
Boys action saw Trenton Runnels lead the Rams with 11 points. Tenaha was led by Avanta Fredieu with 18. Seth Stokes and Kamarrion Ross had 15. Brikelian Kenney and Darrien Menefee had 14, and Tray Tutt scored 12 points.
The Lady Rams and Rams will regroup and head to Timpson for more District 23 action at Bears Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Sub-varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m. with varsity action to follow.
Tenaha will host the Waskom Lady Wildcats and Wildcats at the Tenaha SEC on Tuesday, January 21. JV starts at 4:30 p.m. and varsity will follow.
January 17, 2025 - The Roughriders and Lady Riders continue district play tonight, January 17, 2025 as they play host to the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats of Palestine.
The ladies lead off with tip-off around 6 pm (at the conclusion of the preceding sub-varsity game). The pregame show will begin 10 minutes before tip-off featuring a visit with head Kevin Smith. The boys will play next (around 7:30). During the Crossover Show (between the two games), we'll meet the Player of the Game, then visit with men's head coach Hiram Harrison. Gary Bobcats Gymnasium on Friday, January 10, 2025 –
The Joaquin Rams varsity basketball team has yet to break into the win column after finishing their semifinal football season just 3 ½ weeks ago. On Friday they fell to the hometown Gary Bobcats by a 106-25 score. The loss puts JHS at 0-6 overall and they have a District 23 2A mark of 0-5. Gary stands at 17-7, and 3-2 in the conference.
Joaquin never led Friday’s contest and Gary had a 18-5 point lead midway through the opening period. By the end of the first quarter Gary had built a 34-5 lead and they led 63-9 at the halftime intermission.
The buzzer which ended the third period saw GHS build an 88-16 lead. GHS outpaced the Rams 18-9 points in the final quarter to cruise to the 106-25 win.
Junior postman Conner Rios led Joaquin with 8 points. Senior guard Dallon Jordan scored 6 and sophomore guard Urijah Ford added 5 points to the Ram’s tally sheet.
Gary was led by Junior guard Kohl Woodfin with 19 points and senior guard Mason Powell had 17 points for the day.
Joaquin High Basketball will travel to Elysian Fields on Tuesday, January 14 to compete at Yellowjacket Gymnasium. The JV teams will start at 4:30 p.m. with varsity girls and boys teams games to follow.
Gary Bobcats Gymnasium on Friday, January 10, 2025 –
The visiting Joaquin Lady Rams varsity basketball team took a 48-27 District 23-2A conference basketball win over the Gary Lady Bobcats on Friday. The win improves the Joaquin record to 9-11 overall and their conference mark stands at 4-3. Gary is at 6-18, 3-4.
JHS jumped out to a 5-2 point lead midway through the first period but trailed Gary 7-6 going into the second period. Halfway through the second frame Joaquin had gained a 14-10 point advantage and they led 18-13 over Gary by the halftime intermission.
Joaquin’s lead only grew from there as they pulled away to a 35-17 lead by the end of the third stanza. They again outscored Gary 13-10 in the final period to take the 48-27 win.
The Lady Rams were led scoring by Sevanna Stotts with 15 points and Ellie Anglin scored 10. The Lady Bobcats were led by Aleigha Finley with 13 and Cheyenne Woodfin scored 10.
Joaquin High Basketball will travel to Elysian Fields on Tuesday, January 14 to compete at Yellowjacket Gymnasium. The JV teams will start at 4:30 p.m. with varsity girls and boys teams games to follow.
