February 19, 2025 - The Shelbyville Dragons will face the Overton Mustangs in the Area Basketball Playoff at 7pm on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Hallsville High School Coliseum. Ticket prices are $6 Adult and $4 Student (All at the gate). Passes accepted are All Coaches, District Passes, Senior Citizens, and Veterans. Shelbyville is the visiting team.
Center Roughrider Coliseum on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 –
The Timpson Bears varsity basketball team fought hard throughout Tuesday’s Bi-District playoff with Hemphill High School. The Bears trailed most of the game. But three pointers by LaJordan McCollister and Dacorien Johnson tied the contest at 46-46 with less than 10 seconds remaining in the game. However, a last second desperation heave by Hemphill Hornet Ethan Dickerson hit its mark to give the Hornets the win and to avoid overtime.
The Hornets had taken a narrow 13-10 point lead at the end of the first quarter. They led 29-18 at the halftime break. HHS had a ten-point advantage at 39-29 by the end of the third period.
Early in the fourth stanza, Hemphill gained a 42-29 lead but the Bears only sped up their defensive pressure avoiding any Hornet’s attempt at stalling out the remaining clock. Besides Dickerson’s game-winner, Hemphill was only able to sparsely score with 9 trips to the free throw stripe. The Bears outscored the Hornets 20-13 in the final quarter with three 3-pointers, two putback shots, a jumpshot and by making their own trips to the free-throw line.
Hemphill was led by Dickerson with 15 points. Timpson was led by JJ Garner with 15 and Jackson Campbell scored 14 points.
Hemphill, now 15-16, will now move on to the Area Round of the 2024-25 Texas UIL Class 2A Basketball State Playoffs. They will face 30-2 Hawkins next week. Timpson’s season ends at 20 wins and 13 losses.
Center Roughrider Coliseum on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 –
The Shelbyville Dragons varsity basketball team have improved their season record to 26-3 with a 55-43 win over the Beckville Bearcats (17-12). The win was a Bi-District round elimination in the 2024-25 Texas UIL Class 2A Basketball State Playoffs.
Beckville led early but Shelbyville fought back to lead 6-4 points midway through the first period. At the buzzer sending the game to the second quarter SHS led 13-11. The second period saw SHS leading 17-13 at the midpoint and they gained a 24-19 advantage by the halftime intermission.
The third quarter saw the Dragons outpace Beckville 16-14 points with 4 minutes remaining in the period and they carried a 40-33 lead into the final period. The Dragons were able to gain a 15-10 scoring advantage during the fourth quarter to gain the 55-43 win and advance to the Area round of the playoffs.
Shelbyville was led by senior guards Ja’Davian Mathis with 24 points and DJ Barnes had 15. Beckville was led by junior guard Braxton Bullock with 12 points.
The Dragons will next face the 23-5 Overton Mustangs who beat Union Grove 65-44. A date and venue have not been released yet.
February 18, 2025 - Shelbyville Boys Basketball team will play Beckville in the playoffs tonight, February 18 at 6pm at Center Roughrider Coliseum, 658 Roughrider Drive, Center, Texas 75935.
Event policy is a Clear Bag Policy. No outside food or drinks. No cash will be accepted at the door.

February 17, 2025 - Tonight, February 17, the Center Roughriders travel to Lufkin to take on the Silsbee Tigers at 7pm in Round I of the UIL State Playoffs.
The game is available for live stream at the NFHS Network, the home for most of the statewide playoff tournaments for all sports. Hallsville High School on Friday, February 14, 2025 –
The Tenaha Lady Tigers improved their season record to 31-6 with a convincing 53-17 Area playoff basketball win over the Harleton Wildcats on Friday. The Lady Tigers came into the game as the first seed of District 23 2A and Harleton came in with a 18-11 mark and they were the third seed of District 21 2A.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 point lead early and they led 10-2 midway through the first period. They led 19-3 at the end of the opening period. The second quarter saw THS leading 23-3 at the midpoint and they led 34-7 at the halftime intermission.
The third stanza saw the Lady Tigers leading 44-8 at the 4 minute mark. By the end of the third quarter Tenaha led 49-13. Each team scored 4 points in the final period as THS took the 53-17 win.
Tenaha was led by freshman Angel Alexander with 22 points and junior Ariana Dagley had 11. Harleton was led by junior Makenzie Hearron with 8 points.
The Tigers will face Martins Mill High School next week in the Region III Semifinal round of the Texas UIL Basketball Playoffs. Martins Mill beat Riesel 83-23 on Friday.
February 14, 2025 - Tonight's matchup between the Tenaha Tigers and the Gary Bobcats has been cancelled. Due to an error in the calculation of the number of games played, it has been determined that no tie between Tenaha and Gary exist. Both teams will continue into the playoffs with Gary Bobcats as the number 1 seed and Tenaha Tigers as the number 2 seed. Game dates and times will be announced as soon as they are available.
February 12, 2025 - Parents here is the link that will be used to sign up for Spring Baseball and Softball. If you haven't used the online system, it will require a birth certificate to be attached. Once you upload the birth certificate once, it will be uploaded for every sport you wish to play. The deadline to register is Friday, February 14. If you are unable to sign up online, you may visit City Hall Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30.

Central Heights High School on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 –
The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity basketball team fell to the Woden Lady Eagles by a 46-22 score during a Bi-District playoff elimination game on Tuesday. The loss ends Joaquin’s season at 16 wins and 17 losses. Woden will advance to the Area round of the Texas UIL Basketball Playoffs with a 24-10 overall mark.
Woden jumped out to an early 7-3 lead but Joaquin bounced back to pull to within 11-10 points by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Eagles pulled away to lead 19-10 midway through the second frame and they led 23-14 at the midway break.
At the mid-point of the third period WHS led 29-16 and they held a 34-21 advantage going into the final period of play. The Woden defense was able to thwart any Joaquin comeback and the Lady Eagles outpaced JHS 12-1 points during the final quarter as they took the 46-22 win.
Joaquin was led by Sevana Stotts who scored a game-high 16 points. Woden was led by Judith Montoya with 14 points and Jolletter Montoya with 11.
February 11, 2025 - The Roughriders wrap up district play tonight, February 11 and determine their playoff seeding tonight as they travel to Madisonville to face the Mustangs
Tip off is around 6:15--or immediately after the final JV game concludes. Right before that, the live stream will begin with the Pregame Show where we visit with men's head coach Hiram Harrison and preview the game.
At 7-2, The Roughriders are in second; with a win tonight they would secure the FIRST SEED in the "Small School State Playoff Bracket." Combined with a Bullard loss to Hudson, Center would become District Co-Champions. However, a loss tonight gives Center the SECOND SEED in the Small School Bracket.
During the Halftime Show we'll have some game analysis and hear from several students about the game. Stay with us through the Postgame Show where we'll meet our Player of the Game.
