Do you know someone who is blind? Maybe a friend or a family member? Statistics tell us that over a million Americans have severe vision impairment. That’s a big number. But it pales in comparison to the number of blind people in the 1st Century, during the time of the New Testament. In the gospel of John, chapter 9, we read of an encounter between a blind man and Jesus.

With my background as a church musician and worship leader, it’s not surprising that a significant percentage of these little thoughts, over the years, have been about gospel music. The stories behind the hymns. The stories behind the men and women who wrote them. One of the most prolific hymn writers in history, penning over 8000 songs, was named, appropriately enough, Gabriel.

August 14, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, August 14.

For much of the 20th century, the most popular media product was the vinyl record. At its peak in 1977, over 350 million were sold. But then, in 1982, a new product hit the market, the compact disc. And as the CD rose in popularity, the LP fell. By 1992 less than a million records were sold. Nothing surprising there - a new product takes the place of an old one - it’s the history of commerce.
