David's Daily Devotion for April 18

April 18, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, April 18. Good Friday!

Have you ever wondered why the adjective “good” is applied to the day that Jesus was brutally crucified? The answer lies in the way that the definitions of words change over time. At one time, the word “good” was a synonym of “holy,” and we can certainly see the appropriateness of that adjective for this sacred day.

David's Daily Devotion for April 16

April 16, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, April 16.

We continue today with our series “The Road to Resurrection,” focusing on what the Bible tells us Jesus did each day of the week leading to the first Easter. Wednesday of Holy Week is sometimes called “Silent Wednesday” because the Word gives no details about Christ’s activities on that day. Perhaps knowing what was to come, He spent the day in rest and prayer and preparation.

David's Daily Devotion for April 15

April 15, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, April 15.

We continue our week-long series “The Road to Resurrection”, looking at what Jesus did on each day of Holy Week, each day that led to the Cross, that led to the Empty Tomb. On Monday we saw the very public purging of the temple money changers. And on Tuesday, Jesus and the Twelve were in the temple once again.

David's Daily Devotion for April 10

April 10, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, April 10.

On April 10, 1925, a book was published. It made an unremarkable and unsuccessful debut. One hundred years later, this book has sold over 30 million copies, is a staple in most high school English classes, and is widely considered to be on the short list for The Great American Novel. Happy birthday to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.”

David's Daily Devotion for April 9

April 9, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, April 9.

I’m in the great city of San Antonio for a few days, visiting family. My oldest daughter is here, and my only sister. My two favorite granddaughters are here, as well - my only two! I’ve always liked San Antonio. I grew up in Houston, and lived for fifteen years in Dallas, but the Alamo City is my favorite of the Big Three Texas towns. Almost 20 million people live in these three “metroplexes,” and the majority of them are from the same place - someplace else.

David's Daily Devotion for April 8

April 8, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, April 8.

Today is the birthday of a man named Siddhartha Gautama. He was a wandering teacher who lived five centuries before Bethlehem. You may know him by his other name - Buddha. 500 million people follow his teachings today, and today’s devotion is about an encounter I had... with a Buddhist.
