David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 14

August 14, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, August 14.

For much of the 20th century, the most popular media product was the vinyl record. At its peak in 1977, over 350 million were sold. But then, in 1982, a new product hit the market, the compact disc. And as the CD rose in popularity, the LP fell. By 1992 less than a million records were sold. Nothing surprising there - a new product takes the place of an old one - it’s the history of commerce.

David's Daily Devotion for August 13

August 13, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, August 13.

This week, in 1935, a man named William Penn Rogers was killed in a plane crash in Alaska. His name has faded somewhat in the last 90 years, but at his death, Will Rogers was one of the most famous people on earth. He was a writer featured in over 4000 newspapers. He was a Hollywood actor with over 70 movies to his credit. He was a world traveler, circling the globe three times. What a life!

David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 12

August 12, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, August 12.

This week, in East Texas, the temperatures are supposed to rise into the mid-90’s. Some of our faithful readers live outside the great state of Texas, but I’m guessing that wherever you live - it’s hot! Well, I’ve got a cool solution. Today’s devotion brings you “Christmas in August”.

David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 11

August 11, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, August 11.

I’ve recently taken up a new hobby. I grew up in a home where the practice of memorization was highly prized. My father spent his life “hiding” the Word of God in his heart, and encouraged his children to pursue that calling. Over the last half century I’ve been blessed to have had that opportunity.

David's Daily Devotion for August 8

August 8, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, August 8.

We’ve come to the end of “Teacher Week” here at the Daily Devotion. My family tree is filled with teachers. Sisters, daughters, nieces, nephews - educators at every level. In my younger years I had the opportunity to serve as a high school choral director. This is a shout out to teachers everywhere. We respect what you do. We acknowledge the difference you make. We commit to lift you up in prayer during this coming school year. Here are some inspiring quotes about teaching.

David's Daily Devotion for August 5

August 5, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, August 5.

We continue this morning with “Teacher Week” here at the Daily Devotions. As school years are starting all over America, we take the opportunity to focus on a few Bible characters who made a difference as teachers.

Eli was a priest, a spiritual leader in Israel during the period before the Kings. A young mother named Hannah, who had prayed to have a son, brought that boy to Eli as a tribute to God. The old priest agreed to become the child’s mentor, his guide, his teacher.

David’s Daily Devotion for August 4

August 4, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, August 4.

School bells start ringing one week from today in Center, Texas. In other East Texas towns, students are already back in class. But wherever you live, it’s a safe bet that teachers have been back at work for a while. And so this morning we begin “Teacher Week” at the Daily Devotions. Behind every great person is a great teacher. Each day this week we’ll look at a Bible character who was called to greatness by God, and the teacher who helped them get there.

David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 1

August 1, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, August 1.

As we come to the end of the week, we come to the beginning of a new month - August. As a boy, August was a long, hot, slow, last gasp of summer. A last chance for days of freedom and play. It’s still just as hot, but with schools opening, or at least preparation for school beginning, it feels, in a way, like summer has already ended.
