On October 6, 1927, a memorable movie premiered in New York City. It was called “The Jazz Singer” and was the very first “talkie”, a film with synchronized sound. The audience that night was stunned by this new technology and reacted with a standing ovation. Movie-goers across the country, and then around the world, followed suit. The silent film era was over. Sound had won.

That wasn’t because of the Gospel of Matthew, but because the translator’s name was Thomas Matthew. Except, there was no translator named Thomas Matthew. In fact, Thomas Matthew didn’t even exist. So why the fake name? The answer to that question makes this Bible a very special book indeed.

My neighbor’s rooster has decided that my place is his second home, or maybe his vacation home. In reality, I’m just his second food source. Every morning - EARLY - he plants himself on my porch and announces his presence with a mighty crow. This continues until I come out with the chicken feed. He has trained me well.

Mary Stuart was Queen of Scotland and a rival of the first Queen Elizabeth of England. Mary had a son who she named James, and when he was 20 years old, Elizabeth had Mary executed. When Elizabeth died, 16 years later, James became King of the British Empire. He was highly intelligent and well educated, but not a particularly successful monarch, often at odds with Parliament and unpopular with his people.
