January 15, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, January 15. Does God have a sense of humor? An interesting question. I believe that he does. Let’s explore this together.
I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His creation. Have you ever really looked at a giraffe? How about the emu, or the camel, or the duck-billed platypus. Let’s face it - these are not serious animals. It’s fun to imagine Adam trying to name critters like these, while being overcome with laughter!
January 14, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, January 14.
On this day, in 1875, Albert Schweitzer was born. He died in 1965 at the age of 90. So, what did Schweitzer accomplish in his 90 years on Earth? OK, here we go! Are you sitting down? Albert Schweitzer was a musician, scientist, writer, architect, engineer, inventor, medical doctor, theologian, and missionary. Whew! I need to get up off my couch and make something of myself.
January 13, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, January 13.
How do you sleep? You’ve heard the old joke - “I slept like a baby. I woke up every three hours and cried!” My sleep habits have changed drastically as I’ve eased into old age. When I was younger, I was a confirmed night owl, not usually in bed before midnight, and every morning I faced the challenge of getting up in time for school or work.
Not anymore! But I sometimes have trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep. I’m not alone - about a third of adults suffer with some level of insomnia.
January 12, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, January 12.
On this date, in 1969, the singer, B.J. Thomas, released the song “Hooked on a Feeling”. It went on to become his first big hit, selling a million records, and he went on to have a big career, a career that spanned seven decades, and lasted until his death in 2021. But today’s devotion isn’t about B.J. Thomas. It’s centered on this thought - you never know what you’ll find when you go to church.
January 9, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, January 9.
Do you ever question God? Do you ever question His fairness, His justice, His will? Have you ever asked Him, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” Today we focus on a story that raises those very questions.
January 8, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, January 8.
On this day, in 1935, a baby boy was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. His parents named him Elvis. The boy went on to become, arguably, the most famous entertainer in history. He sold more than 500 million records - second only to The Beatles. He was a cultural icon. He was the King of Rock and Roll.
January 7, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, January 7.
Did you celebrate Three Kings Day yesterday? No? It’s an important religious holiday to many, especially in our neighbor to the east, Louisiana, where they were enjoying king cakes and kicking off their carnival season. Some call the day “Epiphany” and others refer to it as “Little Christmas” - it is, after all, 12 days after December 25 (cue the carol!)
January 6, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, January 6.
If you read yesterday’s devotion, you probably noticed that I declared it to be the first Monday... of 2025. Several faithful readers were kind enough to inform me that the year we are living in is actually 2026. Thanks! This was a reminder that it usually takes me about two weeks to settle in to the new number. Maybe you have that same problem. I was also reminded that we humans are often slow to adapt to change.
January 5, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, January 5.
Welcome to the first Monday of 2025. We’re barely five days into the new year and already the news is surprising and concerning. I’m going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction - it’s not the last time this year we’ll be surprised and concerned. That’s the world we live in.
January 2, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, January 2.
On January 2, 1902, a man applied for a patent on his brand new invention, an invention that would change America, an invention that would change the world. The man’s name was Willis Carrier, and he called his invention air conditioning. The Carrier Company still exists today, and it’s worth over 40 billion dollars.
