David's Daily Devotion for September 12

September 12, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, September 12.

Have you heard of the comic strip called “L’il Folks?” Doesn’t ring a bell? Well, a few months after it started, the name was changed - to “Peanuts” - and it went on to become the most popular comic in history. At its peak, it was featured in 2600 newspapers, with 350 million daily readers. It was expanded to TV, movies, even a Broadway musical. And it earned its creator, Charles Shultz, over a billion dollars.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 11

September 11, 2025 - Good Morning. It’s Thursday, September 11.

I was getting ready for work, that Tuesday morning in early September of 2001. When the clock struck 7:46, a bulletin came on the television. The newscaster said that a small plane had flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. A few minutes later, the report changed. It wasn’t a small plane, it was a commercial airliner. Just after 8:00, we learned that a second airliner had crashed into the South Tower. And we realized that America was under attack.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 10

September 10, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, September 10.

On my property, a mile outside the bustling metropolis of Tenaha, Texas, I have three, count ‘em three, hummingbird feeders. And I have two, count ‘em two, hummingbirds.  Upon first glance, this would seem to be a recipe for an idyllic scene.  Three feeders, no waiting. Perfect. But when you take my equation and factor in the fact that all hummingbirds are hyper-aggressive little maniacs - well, it’s whatever you call the opposite of idyllic.

David's Daily Devotion for September 9

September 9, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, September 9.

I love spirituals. I love the simplicity, the honesty of these old songs, created by the Black church before the Civil War. Songs of courage and inspiration. Songs of faith, like “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” “Deep River,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” They often contain a touch of melancholy, but also a sense of hope. They are, in every sense, songs of the heart.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 8

September 8, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, September 8.

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. has been in the news a lot lately. But its story began over fifty years ago on September 8, 1971, with a premier performance of a piece by musical legend, Leonard Bernstein. An exceedingly eclectic work, it blended the styles of classical, jazz, and pop, and featured an orchestra, three choirs, and a rock band. He called it “Mass”.

David's Daily Devotion for Sept. 5

September 5, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, September 5.

The term “genius” is thrown around a lot these days. A famous football coach, a director of hit movies, a mega pop star - geniuses! After a while the word starts to lose its weight, its impact. But, back in the day, there was only one . . . Albert Einstein. In 1922, he was 42 years old, and generally considered the greatest mind on earth. That year he would receive the Nobel Prize in physics for his Theory of Relativity. But todays’s devotion is about another of Einstein’s theories - the theory of happiness.

David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 4

September 4, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, September 4.

Are you a student of presidential history? It’s a fascinating area of study. Did you know that there were three presidents who, after their term had ended, took another job in government? Andrew Johnson became a senator. John Quincy Adams spent almost 20 years as a congressman from Massachusetts. And William Howard Taft became the chief justice of the Supreme Court. Imagine holding the highest office in both the executive and judicial branches of government. Amazing!

David's Daily Devotion for September 3

September 3, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, September 3.

When you walk into a lot of churches you’ll find a room called The Fellowship Hall. It’s a place where the congregation gathers - gathers for potluck meals, for banquets, for special occasions - for well, fellowship.

That’s kind of a “church” word, fellowship. It’s our word for what the world would call a party.

David's Daily Devotion for September 2

September 2, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, September 2.

Have you ever sent a bouquet of flowers to someone? Have you ever received one? I’m guessing you answered “yes” to at least one of those questions, maybe both. And that’s why the Flower Industry brings in over 100 Billion dollars each year! But I was thinking this morning about that moment in each of our lives when we probably get the most flowers. I’m talking about that last moment of our lives and all those flowers at all those funerals.

David’s Daily Devotion for Aug. 29

August 29, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, August 29.

Let me tell you about a remarkable method of communication and connection. You probably haven’t heard of it. It’s exceedingly rare. I’ll describe it for you.

First, take a sheet of paper and place it flat on a table or desk. Next, using a writing implement - pen, pencil, crayola, your choice - fill the sheet of paper with thoughts. Important thoughts, trivial thoughts, humorous thoughts, serious thoughts - again, your choice.
