David's Daily Devotion for February 5

February 5, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, February 5.

Have you ever had a “brush with greatness?” That’s the term for a momentary meeting with a famous person. I once shook hands with Ronald Reagan. I’m sure that moment made a deep impression on him! Honestly, it’s not a memory that I think about much. But, in 1982, as a college student in Houston, I met a man who made a very memorable - and surprising - impression on me.

David's Daily Devotion for February 4

February 4, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, February 4.

Did you remember the holiday that was celebrated last Sunday? It was February 2, and that means it was Groundhog Day! In Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, they pulled a furry little rodent named Phil out of his burrow, to see if he could see his shadow. The tradition started about 1840, but was connected to an ancient ceremony brought to America by German immigrants. If Phil sees his shadow - if the sun’s shining - there will be six more weeks of winter. Well, Sunday was sunny in Punxsutawney, so...

David’s Daily Devotion for Jan. 31

January 31, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, January 31.

As this month is ending, I’m reminded of a beginning. By January of 2022, I had been sending out these little daily thoughts, by email, for a couple of years. They started when the world stopped - for the Covid pandemic. The devotions were a way to stay connected with family, friends, and the volunteers I worked with at my church. And then, on January 31, a new door opened.

David's Daily Devotion for January 29

January 29, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, January 29.

I John 5:14 is one of my favorite scripture verses on the subject of prayer. You’ve heard it before - “This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” That’s from my favorite translation - the New International Version (NIV). But listen to how it sounds in the New Living Translation - “And we are confident that He hears us, whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him.” Anything that pleases Him!

David's Daily Devotion for January 28

January 28, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, January 28.

Here’s our question for the day - Does God SING? Let’s search the Word. The Bible leaves no doubt that we, as children of God, are created to lift our voices to Him in praise. It mentions singing over 400 times, and in 50 verses God states it as a command.

Psalm 95:1 - Come, let us sing to the Lord, let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation!

David’s Daiky Devotion for Jan. 27

January 27, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, January 27.

If you’re over 60 years old, I’ll bet you remember where you were on July 20, 1969, when Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. But, do you recall where you were on January 27, 1967?  I do. On that day, the astronauts of Apollo 1 were killed as their capsule was engulfed in flames on the test pad. We knew, inherently, that space travel was dangerous. But no other astronauts had died before, and it was a shock to our nation.

David’s Daily Devotion for Jan. 24

Jamuary 24, 2025 - Good Morning!  It’s Friday, January 24.

On this day in 41 AD, a Roman emperor was assassinated. History has made him the “poster boy” for eccentric, evil Caesars. His great-grandfather was the first character mentioned in the Nativity story - “and it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus”. Augustus reigned for 40 years, his great-grandson only managed four. His name was Caligula.
